Pick Up or Not????

by 23Skidoo » Sat Jul 23, 2011 6:54 am

For those who may not know what Slapperdad is referring to, take a look at the Corona Angels (Team Marty), by way of example. When you play them It looks like there are 25 girls in the dugout, but when you look at the team profile, all but a handful are committed to D1 programs. They are good players and they all get their shots, but some are not as good as others. The CA teams seem to be able to handle a 20 player roster and get by with it, because they have been at it for a while longer than us. The midwest teams don't, can't and won't - at least for now. There are many reasons, but the main reason, in my opinion, would be the parents of the girls that wear the "special" glasses, call out coaches and cause dissension.

I am a little confused by pick up players. Since our team cancels all future tourneys we are subbing for teams in need of extra players but only in open or ASA teams. I thought a player could only be listed on a roster for one team in NSA or in ASA. We were told unless a player's current coach released a player the player could not play for another team in a NSA tourney if she was listed on the roster. I thought ASA was the same.....Since we are NSA we can only sub in ASA or open tourney's. Isn't this true? And if so how are teams "picking up" players for the big tourneys?
