What's on your mind?

Anon, you've demonstrated your understanding of the softball world. You obviously don't need any input from the likes of me so I won't rant. Much.

And finally, I will thank you very much if, in the future, you refrain from implying Kim Jong is a member of or associated in any way with the Squirrel family.

Good day sir.

My understanding of softball is incomprehensible, and of stats reprehensible, which makes your rants indispensable. Usually.

As to your latter request, I would be happy to honor same, and would only ask that you refrain from implying that I am a psychotic, stats-obsessed parent. Although it may be true, our family has kept this hidden for many long years in the belief I may have a future in politics - perhaps as an alderman, or superintendent of lifeguards - and so they wish it remain just that - (a secret)... lest it tarnish my carefully cultivated, squeaky-clean, girl-next-door image.
Clandestinely,
anon

PS My Godmother suggested I divert attention away from the matter under discussion, so please enjoy this video of Shakira... golfing. And beware the penguin.

I think that whatever you do at a tournament, you should do right or at least try to do it right. Bottom line. Maybe the stats aren't 100% accurate but they should be close. Maybe college coaches don't look at them but the players do so they'd like them to be as accurate as possible. I think that's all anyone is asking. We were all told that PGF wanted to listen to concerns yet when they are voiced in the PGF board, people go off over their opinions. Is that listening?

They don't even have the SCORE right in our pool play game on Tuesday against Indiana Magic. It says we lost 9-7 when we tied 7-7. When I wrote PGF, nobody responded at all, and then I see a post on HB about not writing them about pool play games. Ummm OK I guess...but I think it is a fair request to ask that the scores be corrected, even if they mean nothing...whether anybody looks at them or not.

If you are trying to have the best tournament in town, you should try to do everything as best as you can and if you can't even get the scores right, there might be a problem that should be addressed. Just my opinion.

^^^That seems fair. We did not have any of the concerns with the scorekeeping as others have posted on here, but I agree that it is not too much to get the scores right. One thing I hope the PGF considers for next year is to have the teams that are invited ( i.e. the ones who don't receive berths in a qualifier) play each other in the opening rounds of the elimination bracket. I could be wrong, but all the teams that had 'play-in' games ( HS division) had earned their berths by qualifying.

So do you think the teams that EARNED a top 9 finish at Premier this year and get an automatic berth next year don't deserve it as much as the teams that have to go to a qualifier?

Ok.

One thing to keep in mind s that some girls only played in the pool games, so those stats are important to them. I know a few have no stats at all even though they played in a few pool games. The coaches may not care, but the girls did at the time.

It was a blind draw. It doesnt get any more fair than that.

I can fix that score. The game was a revert back score and the scorekeeper just ended the game where it was. Your score will be corrected or already has been. With over 600 games being tracked with a new scorekeeping application, there are bound to be some mistakes. Guess that is a major problem when a few scores out of over 600 were reported incorrectly - mostly in pool play because the scores reverted back to the last completed inning and the scorekeepers just ended it where it was so that they could get ready for the next game. They did not even have time to go to the bathroom or get food usually because there was only 10 minutes between games. But your complaint has been duly noticed.

By the way, best of luck to you and your team Amie!!

PS: During the week, I did not have any time at all to respond to emails. I was at the fields from 7:300am - 12:00pm - sometimes later. Sorry.

PSS: By the way, how did ASA do with their scorekeeping in the 14U and 16U divisions. I didn't have time to check it out yet ;)

PSSS: To say that we were not "at least trying to do it right" is a personal insult to the countless hours all my scorekeepers put in and to the countless hours I put in. Sorry we are not perfect :(

I think you missed the point of my post. The teams that received automatic berths based on their performance in this year's tournament have earned their spot. I am talking about the additional teams that qualify next year- they should not to have to play in 'play-in' games ( if there are teams that receive an at-large bids).
ok....

I understood, and somewhere else on HB I think I suggested the at-large berths be the play-in games if needed. I think treating them like the wild card games in the NFL is appropriate and would tone down the bitching from those who earned a berth. However, Im still good with a 100% blind draw.

We had major issues with the Snack Bar Folks @ Harvard, charging our trainer and others for ice is just the beginning. All the complaints about the snack bar, rudeness, over-charging, opening late and out-right belligerence on part of the folks who ran it have all been reported to the tournament management by the Site Directors and many others... Just for clarification, the Snack Bar was not run by PGF officials, it was out-sourced to another group.

There are a handful of other issues also brought up that should be corrected next year, T-Shirt Sales not happening until Wednesday, the need for port-a-potties, field maintenence not done on a couple of the fields by the Park and some other minor issues..

Overall, I think they did a good job -- room for improvement? Absolutely..
