you make the call...is it or isn't it?

Rule question? Get it answered here.

I have not seen this happen, but was running a scenario through my head and i think i know the answer but i thought i would ask and see what kind of answers i got on here.

Line drive screamer to the outfield, outfield is deep, skips off the grass, hits the fielders glove and goes over the fence. Is this a dead ball, 2 bases? 4 base error? I do not think it is a 4 base error because it has already made contact with the ground....what is the correct answer?

I believe that this should be ruled that same as a ball out of play. The batter would get whatever bag she had reached before the ball went out of play. The same for any runners on base. If she hit the ball so hard that she only reached 1st base then it is ruled a single. JMHO

not sure on the rule being it touched a fielder first. Wade, any ideas?

Here's a little rhetorical rule of thumb for anyone who's interested:

In argument, one should studiously avoid making comments that parade as dismissive sarcasm but in fact scream sniveling concession. Either come strong or don't come at all, because the "chihuahua-nipping-at-the-heels" middle-ground is comically pathetic.

Hi Ted.

NoNo,
So if a line drive hits the third baseman and goes out of play is that a ground rule double also? ...and leave me alone...I still haven't let it go. Bobby Knight Rules!!!!!

To start, I would suggest dropping the term "error" as that has absolutely nothing to do with rules and can cause confusion.

Speaking ASA, this is a ground rule double. 8.5.I
