5.8 Earthquake in Chino Hills at 11:42

About to leave the house and kids were horsing around in the back seat when the roll'n started. We would have missed the entire thing, if it weren't for the frightened look of a person walking by. On our drive, saw workers standing outside of a few companies but other than that... another day in sunny So Cal.

My DD is in San Diego and she was bummed she didnt feel anything...weird kid!! She wanted to come back home and tell her friends she had been in an earthquake....

Went to breakfast at a family owned restarant in Chino Hills and i am paranoid of earthquakes. This one was the first ever that i actually observed. usually i bolt but since i was in a single story and with a full room and my younger DD i watched, It definately seemed like 30 or more seconds. There was no dought from the beginning it was a quake. It hit like a mag truck then calmly swayed like on a boat and then got extremely ruff. At that point you began to think OK is this the big one.. Then the swaying got callmer and stopped. Then i bolted. It was kind of humerous that they had to remake my omlete because the cook dropped it and ran out the door. Most of the people there were from Mexico and when it shook they bolted because in Mexico an earthquae like that would flatten buildings. All in all i got a new omlete and came home to find my older children paniced and many broken pictures and things but no structural damage. But as i speak we just had a 3.3 after shock. Not so much fun from a second story.

Called the wife in Chino, She said one picture frame fell, bike helmet ended up in middle of garage
floor, many cans fell off the shelf onto the garage floor, and I thought she said all the Bruin football players fell down. So it couldn't have been too dig of a quake.

Yep! That's why we call it the "Shake and Bake" state

I heard reports it was felt in San Diego and even Las Vegas! I was at work in Tustin and it shook the place up pretty darn good. A jolt then the roll. Probably lasted about 20 seconds or so. Nothing fell off the shelves at work or at my home 5 miles to the west.

Been through 11 hurricanes, several floods, one house fire, 1 tornado, been shot, blown-up, been in a hold-up, 3 car accidents, two aircraft 'emergencies', two divorces, but never in an earthquake. I really want to be in an earthquake - I am thinking, in the very center of a football field, by myself, I dont want to worry about anyone, I want to feel it. We missed the 1989? World Series earthquake by 7 days - so let me know when the next one is coming.

I saw on National Geographic this morning that the biggest quakes on record (that is, written about) in the U.S. were in... take a guess everybody --

California?
Oregon?
Alaska?
Washington?

in New Madrid, Missouri, in 1811. Est. 7.8 - 8.1 on the Richter Scale.

So, just saying, earthquakes are not just a California thing.

So violent if created a whole lake where the earth fell several feet.

You are ... well maybe not nuts. Thank God everyone is ok - hopefully anyway. Again, when I know a hurricane is coming, I have time to barbecue and get ready for the show - when an earthquake comes, it looks like all you can do is put your head between your knees and ... all that.

I would take your weather and our storms, but I also want all your softball competition to be within an hours drive, I want some mountains to look at, some desert to walk in, a warm water beach like we have, and Texas A&M within a short drive.

You've seen too many earthquake movies on TV. Oh....and our shit's all dry and salvagable after it's over.
