yep. its distilled water with calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and potassium bicarbonite

gatorade does have a lower calorie product line. G2 natural uses natural sweeteners and is half the calories of regular gatorade

http://www.gatorade.com/default.aspx#product?s=g2-natural

Is that good?

I have a visual image of the Little Rascals taking their Castor Oil ...

Let me guess that your "electrolyte" of choice is either charred oak- or perhaps some hops on those warmer days?

Tastes a bit like spring water. You can say it is good. $4.1 Billion dollars good.

Because that promotes peak performance at work?

Sorry to piggyback on your post Arto, but ...
All along I've been wondering how much people are concerned about the affects of what they consume prior to their next work day or at lunch? Or is that less important than how their 12 year old plays some game? And I am interested in someone taking a guess at what tangible affects there might be from a kid eating a greasy hamburger just before a game? What will be the affects on their kid's focus while at bat? Her bat speed? Her time to first? Her reaction time to a pitch or a ball hit to her? Her desire to perform?

When I was a kid playing sports (primarily basketball), I can't remember ever feeling the affects of what I ate and I ate mostly red meat with lots of fat, cokes and assorted crap. Anything I felt like. I doubt I could have felt any better when I was in the midst of competition. When I played, my adrenaline took over during a game. My desire to win. My competitiveness. I just can't imagine it making a discernable difference in softball with the possible exception of the affect on a pitcher or catcher's stamina on an unusually hot/grueling day. This discussion involves active kids not 52 year old sedentary toads like me.

Sorry folks, I have no interest in "Blindly" agreeing with the masses or generally accepted thinking. My first hand experiences prevent it. Then again, my first hand experience was thinking the wheel was just a fad when it was invented.

Not Perfect Choices Squirrel
10 years from now I'll wish I felt like I do these days.

In my playing days, I watched several of my team mates use any supplement / protien powder / testosterone pre-curser / creatine / over-the-counter muscle builder they could get their hands on. The only thing they accomplished through their fixation on searching for "the edge" was spending insane amounts of money and being broke.

I tend to agree with Fred (or Joe) that moderation and common sense should rule the day. If your daughter is thirsty, how bout water? Probably cheaper than gatorade anyway. Greasy burger in the middle of a 3 game friendly? Not the best choice, but once in a while probably won't make a noticable difference in performance.

Sometimes we forgot they are kids and this is a game.

Hummm... I must be old... school... but something I have found adequate is a large bottle of water filled about 20% with orange juice and the rest just decent water. You get the water, don't get a major sugar load but something more than just... water.

like I said earlier, my kid figured it out on her own. Between games at a tournament one year she downed a funnel cake. She didnt expect to play much in the later game. The first pitcher got lit and she had to go in. The grease and the fat got to her. She kept thinking she was going to lose it with every pitch. Needless to say, she didnt focus and walked the world.

Not sure what was worse for her - pitching as bad as she did in front of that crowd, or the thought of spewing funnel cake in the circle. Since then she has moderated her own diet on game days and before long practices. She keeps a particular protein bar in her bag, alternates between water and gatorade to stay hydrated, and will devour watermelon and grapes in the dugout.

Once the practice or last game is over, its then open season. On our long drives home, the stop for food can run the gamut from a triple at In & Out to a cesar salad or fettucini at CPK. One thing she does have down though is the location of every Sees Candy off the I-5 in SoCal.

They just make sure that on the day the inspectors visted that there were not TOO MANY rat cojones in your salami ... Eat away Fred ...

Feel free to do so if that floats your boat GERONIMO. My preference is moderation and good old commons sense. A greasy burger and a Coke now and then won't hurt anyone...

If you're worried about rat turds in your salami...you'd be well advised to stay away from the water that comes out of your tap...*where you'll find chlorine, flouride, and a little arsenic mixed in for good measure....and add a little lead from your plumbing if your house is more than 30 years old.

Absolutely agree ... Now eat that greasy cow flesh and dyed corn syrup water and run the bases a half hour later on a 95 degree day ... You say you're a health care provider, tell us what that is coming out of little Suzies nose as she is crossing home plate ... If the kids are being physical, shouldn't they or their parent use that common sense and the moderation you speak of to limit the foods and beverages that could cause a gastorintestinal situation at an inopportune time ?

*Home filter system takes care of much of that ... Replaced the old pipes when we bought this place ... The farm, of course had well water ... Just the idea of the mass commercial processing of meat had me as a vegetarian for many years ( 10, I think ) ... Fell off the wagon though and now eat what I shoot, catch or raise ... Don't make much Bambilami ...
