QUALIFING out of STATE......HOW DID THEY DO

What's on your mind?

by Bleacher Creature » Tue Aug 05, 2008 2:13 pm

If a team from the Northeast Region has never finished higher than last at ASA Nationals...what is the harm in taking their berth and giving it to a more deserving team from SoCal?

The harm is ,it is THEIR state not yours!
I usually tend to agree w/ you over the years here Sam , but this is typical central positioning syndrome at it worst.i f you want more berth's. petition ASA. as one previous poster stated on another thread. you folks got the highest incomes per capita. and a more population.. and you are the beautiful people as well .... Just get it done. buy it if you have to .. wait....! and here in lies the problem. if i can have it my way then we will make it our way by hook or by crook.

Damn I deal w/ this every day. Home office is in SoCal.

I am going to go out on a limb and say there were not that many really good SoCal Teams at Nationals this year. We saw more really good teams from the midwest and the south.

I am sure there are alot of reasons for it, but the best teams we saw this summer (outside Lady Magic, Batbusters and Firecrackers) were from out of state. But nobody really stood out outside of Lady Magic.

The midwest and southern teams were obviously 2nd year 16s, but are really well coached and disciplined at the plate.

The other challenge was the Southern and Midwestern PUs. They call a MUCH tighter strike zone (especially on the outside) than SoCal, NorCal or Colorado blues we've seen. There was also some regional bias. It was really hard to play a southern team with a southern PU. We won two of those games, and it was not fun.

And don't get me started on the postgame prayer...

You are reading to much into this. I was only going off of the words that Cali posters were making on this board. Its not personal ......Well I guess it would be if "SAM" had a daughter on the American Athletics and spent a minimun of $4000 to travel out of state beacuse he did not think his team could qualify in his own state. Then go to Nationals and tie for 67th and play the same amount of games in front of no coachs because they won one game more then the 95th place teams.

NOTE: all names in the post have been changed to protect the people involved. The above has to be false because even the worst team in Cali is better then the best team any where else. ........................................At least thats what I have been told...On this board

You're not smart enough to play with numbers. It doesn't cost $4,000 to qualify out of state...it runs about $1,800 if you send one parent and one kid.

You don't have a clue as to what it takes to qualify here locally. A DE tournament, blind draw, with 60 teams....likely in the desert. Its not easy. Its not easy to qualify out of state....but it is easier than staying home.

FYI: My DD did play for the AA's for one weekend...when she was 12.

A team finishing 67th played 5 games....and they likely played in front of some coaches.

OBTW: Anybody that refers to SoCals as "Cali's" has no credibility. Also anybody that puts my name in quotations is a "more on"

I was talking about a Region....not a state. If there is no berth in your Region, come out here and play in our Regional Qualifier.

Some of our 12u teams qualified out of state ( good for them) and finished very well. Great experience for the future college and or fingers crossed U.S.A. Olympic players of fastpitch softball. And for those who don't know our 1st & 2nd place state winners went on to place 1st & 2nd at Nationals in Alabama , Great job Corona Angels (Smith) and O.C. Impact very impressive.

TNL= 4TH PL.
Anderson Heat = 9th PL.
Minors Gold = 13th PL.
AA's = 17th PL.

Sorry if I'm off on your placement tryed to figure as best I could. But all in top 20 anyway.
