How much $$ is too much?

I have seen these type of families get invovled in teams and totally infect the team until it was no longer functional.

I've seen the same thing. What would you do in this situation?

The parents never paid the full team fees on time. Missed all the payment deadlines set to help parents spread out the cost. Their DD was a great kid and one of the top players. They never said a word about financial problems, just paid a little and said "I'll get you the rest later." Then sat on the sidelines and complained. Then their sweet DD went to play HS ball, so her little sister joined the team to fill in - at no extra cost. Again, a great kid with solid skills and a fast learner. The parents kept complaining on the sidelines, to the point that they stirred up enough parents to force a coaching change. Older sister came back after HS season. An offer was made - pay what you owe for DD #1 and both can stay. The team was struggling, and a couple players had left the team. The parents saw that as an opportunity to call the coach's bluff. They didn't want to pay another dime, but were happy to stay and help the team. They were shown the door, and the team folded shortly thereafter.

Right decision? Was it all about the money, or being held accountable to what was agreed on at the beginning of the season? Should they have been allowed to stay to keep the team afloat? What would you do?

We paid $750. For that we played in 2 leagues, 6 tournaments in the summer, 2 tournaments last fall, 2 indoor tournaments, and practiced once a week at a local facility all winter long. The players also received two complete uniforms. We did well with our money. Of course there are the travel expenses for those tournaments but that is to be expected. We expect to pay the same amount again this year. Oh, our team played ASA Class A ball and went 41-23 (64)over that time in the spring. I don't know how many games we played starting last fall and over the winter. We did have one fundraiser as well. We kept 12 girls on the team and had a "payment plan" for those parents that couldn't pay it all at once.

we have played for 3 different teams over the last season 4 years in the midwest, and they all had similar fees. Last season we paid $1000.00 for the following:
2 uniforms (all of this stuff is ours to keep..)
batting helmet
equipment bag
2 pr. UA socks
warm-ups
practice t-shirt
team hoodie
12 tournaments
use of an indoor practice facility

all of the travel, hotels, private hitting lessons, ect.. are out of pocket. Our team requires half all fees to be paid in the fall at the onset of our new season, with the remainder due in the spring. The team does a couple of fundraisers, collectively, to help offset the costs for families that may need the help.

Paid the most this year for an 18G team of $1700. Bat bag, helmet, three new sets of uniforms, socks. Paid extra for visors/jacket. Kept everything but three uniform tops. Went to two BB tourneys in the fall/winter, two or three in-town events. In summer went to one local event, PA qualifier, Boulder, BB summer tourney and 18 G nationals. No parent coaches. Had one fundraiser in the fall netted about $1,000.

My friend daughther play for a team based in Downey. They were charged monthly fees, made about $24,000.00 in fundraising, paid for uniforms and for the trip to UTAH. they even paid for the coach loading and car expenses (apparently he does not have a good car) they were even charged double for uniforms, cleats, helmets, and bags. And the coach had girls in the team. (is this what is called a non-profit organization?) or is this a good business! (fundraising was suppossed to be used for trip to UTAH but coach changed his mind and decided to charge the parents) All parents were first time travel-ball parents coming from rec-ball.

So what did the coach pay for with the $24,000 of fundraising money? How much were your monthly fees?

$24000 in fundraising, what did the team do? What were your monthly dues? What were you charged for Utah? Seems something is not passing the smell test

I think they paid between $50.00 or $60.00/month and around $700.00 for UTAH. What I think is that the coach kept the money for the next year. but more than half of the team left after UTAH.
