OBS Mnarchs Info

by Iluvblue » Sat Nov 12, 2011 8:31 am

OBS Monarchs had originally intended on not having a Gold tryout. Due to a players uncertainty, we will in fact be having a tryout for Gold players.

We will also be having a mid week tryout next week for those interested(All age divisions).

Unfortunately, due to the number of tryouts the weekend after Thanksgiving, we felt it best to have a tryout the day AFTER thanksgiving. Certainly not what we wanted, but that is what we must do.

For specific info please go to www.obsmonarchs.com.

JFYI

Corey Reid(Myself) will not be coaching HS this season and will be spending the months of Jan-May with the 12u and 14u Monarchs teams.

Development starts at these ages, not in 16u. The very top players are ready for Gold when they leave 14u, and they get that way by being pushed.

Are you kidding me. The top players get that way from having talent and a work ethic and somewhere down the line they get some good coaching. Nowhere in that equation is being pushed a prerequisite. Your statement scares me.

I know I should follow your lead.

3 years ago a very talented athlete comes to our team. She got by on her natural ability and never really pushed herself. She took inside pitches all day long and waited for balls that were down the middle and away.

i pushed that kid for 1 full year about turning on inside pitches and crushing them. Now throw that kid inside and she will take you yard.

Same player would run base to base and she is blazing fast. Now that kid is looking to score from second on a passed ball. That didnt happen from WORK ETHIC or talent. That happened because she played for a coach that didnt fawn over her natural abilities and pushed her to excel beyond what she was already doing.

That kid will be playing in the PAc 10 in another year. Ask her parents it was her great work ethic that got her to that point.

I scare you?? I am a scary guy, that is why my players leave me in droves every season.

Iluvblue - life would be so much less controversial for you if you would just think of another way to say the same thing before you submit.

Substitute the word "push" with "challenge to excel" and everyone would be right behind you. That's what good coaches do, particularly for that EXCEPTIONAL athlete in your charge who might otherwise be LAZY based on their natural talent.

You have been around long enough to recognize the word "push" is full of negative connotations related to that daddy/mommy who is trying to rectify his/her HS/College/Semi-pro failures via their child. That usually ends poorly for the child (dislike of the game.)

encourage...... request.......... suggest..... blah blah blah.

Less controversial? You are probably right, but i am not submitting stuff to the NY Times. Some fool wants to jump on a post in a thread about what will be happening in an organization as far as coaching, and Im supposed to be concerned?

I just write and post... no matter what I say, some want to spew the venom , so no biggie.

Since my DD plays for Corey and I can't get him to "push" her more, I suspect you poster's will be calling CPS on me....
First Day of practice, her words not mine...."I think I just learned more about softball today than I have been taught by all my other coaches". For all of you posters who do not like what he has to say, you don't have to open the thread....

Reputations are based upon perceptions. I am who I am, and I am not about to turn into a politician to impress people that I dont care to impress.

You can not coach in this sport unless you are comfortable with yourself, because no matter what you do, you will have people that dont care for you.

Whether it be parents from other teams, coaches, even parents on your team. All coaches do what they feel is right, and the most important things for myself, is that those kids that play for me have respect for me (respect that was earned), they left me a far better player then when they arrived, and their parents walk away from me at some point saying that the decision to play on my team was a good one. If those things happen with 85-90% of my players, I will sleep quite well at night.

The things that people that arent involved with my teams think about me means little.
The fact that I dont have teams that have large turnovers from season to season, I think says a little about what we are doing. That speaks far louder than some anonymous poster spouting BS.

Go look at our website and see how many players are different from this Fall season to the Summer season... on both 16u and 18g. That is what really matters.

But thanks for caring :)

Hit It where did your daughter go to school I wouldn't complain w DII...
You must be one of those dumb Asses who blame the coach for the daughter not going anywhere, then turn around and take all the credit when they do go somewhere..
