It is more the exception than the norm that a youth coach is just the coach. A lot of times you will find there are coaches out there who can manage a game, and can manage a team. They are great people, but cannot run a practice. They can get your kid reps and for the natural player that may have an instructor on the side it works well. For the kid who may be a natural athlete but the game does not come as easy to them coaches like the ones I described above kill players. They can't break the game down and teach proper fundamentals.

The biggest thing I see in A ball is too many coaches credit themselves for just providing reps for kids. That isn't coaching.

Just because daddy's want their girl to play a certain position doesn't mean that she should. Some girls just aren't athletic or do not "know" the game. Not only do they need agility but the knowledge and understanding of what the coach wants/expects in certain plays. I thought keeping a team's "core" was a good thing?

Very VALID point, a lot of ground balls being hit every where you go BUT, not a lot of coachs showing the girls how to field it. A lot of fly balls and ground balls being hit to Outfielders but not a lot of coachs showing crow hops or angles or even what side to catch ball on. And I am a firm believer its because they dont know how. I wont even get into hitting, yikes!

You guys just hit the nail on the head.

Tenshun Tip: Look for the coaches that are busy SHOWING the girls what to do, NOT the ones busy yelling at the girls what not to do.
No courage. No game.

LOL even louder. I've seen you SHOWING the girls how to correctly do various things on many different occasions.

The point is, a coach can't show what they don't know.
No courage. No game.

If that was in response to what I wrote my post had zero to do with dad's coaching. I am very pro dads and moms being involved. I think being a part of a team and extended family is overlooked in A ball. I just think that there are far too many coaches that can run through the motions and too few coaches that can build a team by adding to a player's skill set. There are also dads/moms out there that are perfectly qualified to coach BUT do not do so for various reasons.

Spine

I can see you are one of those who read half a statement and fly off the handle. No worries tho I understand the stress of being a pitchers parent!!

Let me Help you out... I said "Head" Coach... Do Your homework, almost everyone of those teams on the list has an asst coach who's daughter pitches. Oh and also said a couple of teams I am not sure of. See Below

Of your list in order these are the only teams I know of who's head coach does NOT have a daughter who pitches. Does anyone know any others???

Heat 00, Grapes Norwood, Mizuno Garcia, Mizuno Stone, Mizuno Lep, Manteca Mayhem, Foothill Gold Niccum, couple of teams I am not sure of but out of 30 to only have 6or 7off the top that don't. Kinda tells you something

Also Stated I never Said Daddy Ball is a bad thing. See Below

Never said Daddy Ball is a bad thing... Face it 98% of the coach's out there are dad's including myself for the last 15years and of those teams I listed only 2 do not have kids on the team.

Trust me I know what it takes to coach these teams. I think Garcia is one of the best coached teams and most respected teams out there. Why do you think that is??? They play at a high level and are Daddy's that coach. If you are at this level you have to know the difference between Daddy Coaching and Daddy Ball. When a Dad starts a team to make sure his daughter will be the starting whatever no matter who is the better player for the spot That's DADDY BALL!! Then again maybe I am the only one who has ever seen this happen in TB

Talk about fly off the handle Bleacher. Bold and Caps and all. I wont get into the Garcia team anymore. They are a great team, Well Coached, disciplined.

Dads and Moms are what makes this sport run. I think that people talk way too much about Daddy ball. If it was a real factor then teams would dissolve. The bottom line is most of these coaches, including Head Coaches, have children on the teams. If they are playing their daughter over someone else that has earned that spot, then I dont see their teams staying together, or doing well in any big tourneys.
