Its time to shut that operation down. I know its a requirement when you work for the government or for a government controlled company, to check your ability to think at the gate - but this is crap.

While working for a defense contractor, we encountered a serious situation of metal fatigue on a major load bearing portion on a set of airplanes. The more that were checked , the more problems were found. The government answer ? Stop checking those areas of the plane ! How stupid are you - you find too many stress failures by checking for them, well sfb, quit checking for them. After quite some time, an auditor who was not following instructions (he got on base with a working brain) and said ' so no more downs from the web stress failures ?'. Another civilian said, 'No - we were told to stop doing those checks - so we could keep more planes flying.' He went 'ape shit' - and and found a higher ranking person who also wasnt following instructions and reported the problem to him. They contacted the manufacturer and got fixes for the downed planes. I am quite sure - with all honesty - that neither of those guys are still employed there - thank God, I found other work and left.

Congress Launches “Attack of the Drones”
Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s … a drone, and it’s watching you. That’s what privacy advocates fear from a bill Congress passed this week to make it easier for the government to fly unmanned spy planes in U.S. airspace.

Why does my post upset you so much?
Google the words TSA and abuse and you'll get over 8 million hits with links and articles that resemble Spaz's post and outrage.

I'm in total agreement with it and completely outraged by it. The TSA should be abolished.

I'm merely pointing out that the TSA is one small tip of a giant iceberg.
You post your sad little TSA outrage video. What is the point? Why did you post that video? There are hundreds just like them.
What type of discussion were you hoping to start?
Why not talk about the philosophy of statism vs the philosophy of liberty in what is supposed to be a free country.
What is your philosophy? Do you even have one?

The Philosophy of Liberty.

To answer the original posted question Is this how they are protecting us?
YES it is how THEY protect the masses. **always note that THEY are not required to submit to the same protection.
The TSA is a perfect illustration of the unintended consequences of relying on a centralized, socialized, big government program to do what individual citizens should have the right and responsibility to do for themselves.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Widow, your posts and your philosophy are more amusing than upsetting. Your “philosophy of liberty” requires all peoples of the earth to essentially play by the same set of rules and share the same philosophy that you subscribe to. Unfortunately, history has demonstrated to us time and again that we are an imperfect species, incapable of sharing the same goals, religion and morals. Your utopian world is nice in thought but nothing more than a pipe dream, which most of us on the bucket are aware of. In addition, the fact that you continuously push this philosophy will inevitably lead all of us to question your sanity.

If you remove your rose colored glasses long enough, you would see that the world is, in reality, filled with every day people who are: a) not very nice, or: b) just plain evil. They commit unspeakable acts, both individually or collectively, to citizens who are not capable of protecting themselves or enlisting others to protect them. Thus, they turn to government to enact laws and “designates” to enforce those laws to protect them. In the United States, we have done a pretty fair job of enacting the right kinds of laws and enforcing those laws without bias. Although to be fair, there is still a considerable amount of work to be done in both areas.

The answer is not “the philosophy of liberty”, but rather a smaller government that enacts fewer laws, yet works more efficiently. And that is not a pipe dream. Don’t believe me??? Google “Ronald Reagan”.

Sid your post makes no sense at all.

Did you read any of the links?

If pointing out the FACT that we
do not have smaller government that enacts fewer laws more efficiently
(it's growing by leaps and bounds daily as evidenced by my posts)
qualifies me as insane I'll wear that label proudly.
That IS my point.
To create smaller government, with fewer laws that works more efficiently. To abolish abusive federal departments. How can "we the people" do those things if we do not even know that they are happening?

Explain how we differ?

My philosophy of liberty requires nothing from all the peoples of the earth.
It is a philosophy that I (and many others) believe as the best hope for a free society and I hope to spread it whenever I can. But I can only live my philosophy. I cannot use force or coerce anyone to do the same. It's against my philosophy.

I care not about all the peoples of the earth. I care about America. I care about the US Constitution. I care about the Bill of Rights. Do YOU?

PS...Ronald Reagan increased the size of government as most politicians do.

Meanwhile...

In case You Missed It..

In a previous post I put a link to a recent WIRED magazine article covering how
the NSA is building an enormous spy center, probably the biggest ever, in Bluffdale Utah. When construction is completed in 2013, the heavily fortified $2 billion facility will encompass 1 million square feet, including four 25,000-square-foot areas to house endless rows of high-powered servers. The center will be fed data collected by the agency’s eavesdropping satellites, overseas listening posts, and secret monitoring rooms in telecom facilities throughout the U.S.
