Hmmmm, let me think. Go to Princeton, win the Ivy League Championship, but lose to UMass and Lehigh in the regionals, then graduate with a degree from....Princeton. Or go to Lousiana-Lafayette, lose to Alabama in the 2nd round of the WCWS, then graduate with a degree from...Louisana-Lafayette. Quite a conundrum.

Princeton doesn't give athletic scholarships.

I think you may find that any school will find sources of scholarship money for kids they really want. At the Ivy's it may be classified as "need-based" or "academic" rather than "athletic" but it's still financial support.

Yeah, Penn University recruited my brother pretty hard for football his senior year, he was valedictorian and had good test scores. While they didn't give athletic scholarships, they were still offering him quite a bit of both academic and need-based aid. Princeton also came up with a decent package.

Even then though, I'm not sure a WV hillbilly would have felt real comfortable driving his Honda Civic around Penn or Princeton with all of the beamers, benzes, etc. He ended up going to VT, where he fit in a little better.

Which was probably for the better, he figured out his freshman year that a Biochemistry major and football didn't mesh too well, so he gave up football.

I have a son that insisted that he had to go to the U of Chicago. He did. He did well. Bank of America wined and dined and recruited him, with a starting salary of $75,000.

Then, the economy went south.

The new hires were given $5,000 severance pay and escorted to the door.

He got 3 offers immediately and chose Lehman Brothers. They have reduced their workforce by 1400 this week and today's paper reports that they are "near collapse."

Well, me too.

We were laughing yesterday, that he could be with Freddy Mac or Sallie Mae.

One funny fact. He got his first summer banking job because he had 4 years of HS baseball on his resume' and the bank's slow pitch team needed a ringer.
