I'll give you a hint: My given name is Arturo...
It's in my blood to root for the Dodgers, which I have done since I was about 8 yrs old and went to my first Dodger game.
Bobby Valentine in left field, Willie Crawford in center field, Joe Ferguson catching.
I used to fall asleep listening to Vin Scully call the night games on my little portable radio on the night stand next to my bed.
Then Garvey, Cey, Russell, Lopes came along....
After that, Yeager, Guerrero, Fernando, Lasorda...
then rookie of the year players 4 years in a row TWICE:
1979 - 1982: Sutcliffe, Howe, Valenzuela, Sax
1992 - 1995: Karros, Piazza, Mondesi, Nomo.

The Gibson year - 1988...
Vin Scully:
"In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened!"

Jack Buck:
" I don't believe what I just saw!
I don't believe what I just saw!"

then some lean times: Marshall, Brock, Dodgers trading Pedro Martinez for Delino Deshields, possibly the worst trade ever made...

Lately, some decent years, a few very, VERY brief playoff appearances.

On August 14, 1990, my first daughter was born.
My wife went into labor around 7am, and had our daughter around 6pm.
The Dodgers were on TV in the hospital room, playing a doubleheader with the Mets in NY.
There were a few rain delays, which made the games last pretty much from mid morning to early evening.
As my daughter was being born, Dodger's Eddie Murray was hitting a home run.
A slice of heaven for me, and another lifelong memory that includes the Dodgers.

The Dodgers are part of me, good or bad.....
And they are MY Dodgers too.

What about future Hall of Famer Todd Hollandsworth?!?! 1996 Rookie of the year! I would give anything for a "where are they now" special on some of these guys........

I can't just sit back and watch......

It wasn't about Don Sutton, Claude Osteen, Burt Hooten, Andy Messersmith, Terry Forster or even Fernando...

It was about Charlie Hough and Steve Yeager with the waffle glove!

simmer down now!
I'm gonna take this right foot, and I'm gonna whop you on that side of your face...and you wanna know something? There's not a damn thing you're gonna be able to do about it!

JMO......... Ernie Broglio and Bobby Shantz to the Cubs and who does St. Louis receive....Lou Brock, the player who broke both of the greatest theft records, retiring as the all-time stolen base king. He was one of the greatest World Series performers ever, batting .391 in 21 games, with 34 hits and 14 steals for the Cardinals.

Okay, Art
My first Dodger game was at the Coliseum. We had the great years in the early sixties followed by the dismal '67-'68 years after the Koufax retirement( ). Back then our school had the World Series piped in the classrooms since the games were always day games.
I had an old Sony transistor radio under my pillow as I learned the game from Vin.
Mike Morgan (I believe) pitched a shutout against the Cardinals on TV in the hospital room when my wife was in labor on 5/26/90.

I figured you would join in eventually...
That reminds me, in jr high, listening to the Dodgers play Philadelphia in the playoffs....I think Burt Hooten blew a gasket and Dodgers fell behind....then Bill Russell got a late double to tie, and I think, Vic Davalillo (who was brought up as a 40-something player out of the Mexican leagues, at the end of the season) got a pinch hit to win the game in Philly...

Man that Tommy Lasorda header is classic...I feel like doing that to him every time I hear one of those annoying AAMCO radio commercials where he sounds like he has a mouth full of cotton balls...

a buddy who hasnt figured out how to post on Hey Bucket emailed me this story:
My earliest memory is being at a game in the 70's with Big Red machine vs. The Toy Cannon, (Jimmy Wynn #23). Also remember being at World Series game in '88 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and left the game early! THE home run sounded great on the radio on the 405 fwy. Thanks for helping to scrape that wound off again. Ha
