12U Ranking - Accomplishments & Tourney Aspirations

by Journey17 » Mon Jun 04, 2012 4:22 pm

I think Dirt Dogs is a very good team, but they are one of the only teams that don't have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd after their name. Can you let us know how you decided to place them 3rd?

I think overall they are the 3rd best team and would beat the ones below them more often than the others would beat them. That said, they did lose to unranked Hype during the Memorial Day tourney and they played in the Silver in Fresno. Not good for building the case. But a one-run loss to Mizuno Garcia on elimination day in the Memorial Day tourney and an invite to Premier gets them my props.

If they played in local tourneys more often, I think they'd have those missing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd's we'd otherwise expect to see for a team ranked so high. If they weren't in Fresno, they wouldn't get the ranking.

Just my opinion. If they're not 3rd, they're no lower than 5th.

I'm not really sure how mizuno stone can be ranked ahead of USA elite( they have 2 #1's behind their name), breeze 99 (they just finished second in grapes), or heat cota( just beat stone 9-1). So if your basing extreme over Norwood because of head to head, then there is no way stone goes ahead of cota. If a good weekend can move you up then a bad weekend has to move you down! I think once you list the teams that everyone has beaten it will all play itself out.

I moved USA Elite and Breeze 99 up quite a bit in this last ranking, but not playing Memorial Day kept them back. That's a huge tourney weekend. Gotta be there.

It's not just wins. Like I said in the previous post, think MLB. Even the World Champs will lose a lot of games, even some to last place teams. You play that much, you're going to lose. I'm only basing a head to head when the rank is so close. Heat Cota needs to win, place or show in some tourneys in order to move up amongst the others.

I'll look at adding wins but not having tracked them all since the season started, I'll need some help.

With wins against other ranked teams. Friendly wins aren't counted. I'd rather keep it to only elimination day wins but since I asked Tenshun and he provided the rationale, we'll count all wins. I know I'm missing lots, so feel free to shout out but tell me when/where the win was and the link if you have it.

99 NorCal,

I agree with your ranking for the most part. My question is how does RR Gold stay at #1? Based on your comments a 3rd place finish at 14s in RR MeMorial day is not impressive and neither is a 5th place finish in Fresno. If you are the BEST in NorCal you should be dominating and they are not. They are nowhere to be found in all of the ASA tourneys in Sac that have all of the best 12s and 14s playing.

MIZUNO Garcia has played in all of the big tourneys and has done great. I watched them in a 14s friendly with Breeze, DD98 and Smash 98. They played well against some of the better 14u teams. They also had a strong showing in Las Vegas St Pattys Day. RR did not attend. MIZUNO has earned the #1 ranking.

USA Elite should defiantly be ranked above MIZUNO Stone.USA has two 1st place finishes in ASA Tourneys. Stone has yet to win any tournament.

CC Dirt Dogs should not be 3 based solely on a PGF invite. If the invite was based on the teams play then maybe they deserve to be 3rd, but they have no tourney wins that I can see. To me the PGF invite was based on being part of DD Organization.

In my opinion you have to play the BEST TEAMS, STRONGEST TOURNEYS (NOT IFA), and just because a team plays up it does not make you better if the teams you play are B teams .

RR Gold got 3rd playing 14U. That's a great accomplishment for a 12U team. Yes, I'd like to see them play more 12U ranking in SacTown but they proved very early in the season they should play up for competition. I think their 5th place Fresno showing shocked a lot of people that it wasn't higher. But still, Mizuno Garcia is the only 12U team that can hang with them right now.

USA Elite indeed has two championships. I would have liked to have seen them play Memorial Day. But their two championships don't include wins against any of the top 9 listed. They beat some teams who have beat some of the top 9, but none of them directly.

It gets very circular with all the teams having lost to so many, but you can see patterns. I know it's not scientific, and again, I'm just stating one person's opinion.

I have to admit I have to agree with monkey. I have been a huge fan of R R for the last couple of years, but if they aren't going to play any 12u tournaments they shouldn't be #1. I would like to add the fact that they finished 3rd in the R R memorial tournament, which really isn't very impressive considering all the good teams were in the ASA tournament. I think if they played 12u tourneys that mizuno Garcia, sting, dirt dogs could hang with them better than some others think. Jmho

NorCal needs a Bracky style invite only tournament.
