12U Ranking - Accomplishments & Tourney Aspirations

by Monkeyboy » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:28 pm

I agree that it would be nice to host something like that in NorCal. But it seems as if most of the top teams already play together in most of the local Grapettes and ASA tourneys. All except RR Gold. So maybe if you send RR an INVITE to one of the those tourneys then they might feel special and attend, after they get permission to play in something other than IFA.

Here's another thing that might need to be taken into consideration courtesy players. Does a team that use them get credit for that win? When a team doesn't have enough girls to field a team by all means use them. However when you have your own players sitting the bench ( Grapes,Stone,Xtreme)but use the courtesy players instead it seems like going after the easy win(even though none have won a tournament with them) I know other teams use them but I was just going off Fresno (Grapes,Extreme),Memorial Day (Grapes,Stone) and this last weekend oh shocker Grapes carrying 16 players. Courtesy players playing and paying rostered players sitting the bench. So should those teams really be ranked higher than teams that just go with what they got? Does anyone know of any teams that have injured, sick or out of town players and play and win with their real team? Or is everyone doing it?

Fill-in players are certainly acceptable when the roster gets down to 9 for sure but.... This weekend saw Grapes with 14 on the bench and the Extreme girls all started and played entire time which does beg the question - why would any kid who gave up their spot stay? Or how could a parent allow that? Is winning an early June Grappettes Tourn. really important to anyone? (And of course they didn't win).

I also notice an ex-Extreme family is bouncing around like crazy from team to team (I guess hoping that someone will FINALLY build a franchise around her) but it's a little ridiculous. There may be a rude awakening in future seasons of softball for those parents when no team or coach will be willing to put a certain cooking spice in their recipe......

And not to fall into the trap of ranking 12U teams (pretty silly and worthless, especially to the girls) but I like the way Breeze 99 is starting to come together - they started out the year looking pretty weak but are playing some good ball right now and I wouldn't be surprised if they make a fair amount of noise at the end of the year. Also, I would be very nervous about Heat Cota for next year - a very well coached and disciplined young team that will be sure to go far.

wow!really? wrote:I'm not really sure how mizuno stone can be ranked ahead of USA elite( they have 2 #1's behind their name), breeze 99 (they just finished second in grapes), or heat cota( just beat stone 9-1). So if your basing extreme over Norwood because of head to head, then there is no way stone goes ahead of cota. If a good weekend can move you up then a bad weekend has to move you down! I think once you list the teams that everyone has beaten it will all play itself out.

I moved USA Elite and Breeze 99 up quite a bit in this last ranking, but not playing Memorial Day kept them back. That's a huge tourney weekend. Gotta be there.

It's not just wins. Like I said in the previous post, think MLB. Even the World Champs will lose a lot of games, even some to last place teams. You play that much, you're going to lose. I'm only basing a head to head when the rank is so close. Heat Cota needs to win, place or show in some tourneys in order to move up amongst the others.

I'll look at adding wins but not having tracked them all since the season started, I'll need some help.

Cota has wins over Grap Kapp (early on), Breeze 99 and tied Extreme. Beat MiZ Stone twice (9-1, 5-0) Lost MiZ Stone once (3-2), Lost (6) ONE run games to teams ranked above them.

I'll make the edits, although I'm not including the number of times a team has won or ties (although kudos to the teams who pull them off). It could then start getting into was it a Saturday win or an elimination win. I'll just state who they've beat in the rankings (which means no ties because it's not a win).

Thanks for posting the info.

I couldn't find this win, so I'm removing it. Can you say which tourney it was for verficiation? If it's a friendly win, those aren't being considered for the purpose of this ranking.
