BYOB?

What's on your mind?

by dittoz » Wed Sep 24, 2008 4:00 pm

Our team is playing in a Triple Crown tourney in a couple weeks in Salinas, CA. Along with a $475 tourney fee which I thought was pretty expensive, they are also asking each team to bring a new ball and a used ball for each game. Typical tourneys in our area run $375-400, so with the extra $100, I'd really think they could provide game balls on their own...

Is this common? 27 teams are on the list for the 14u division...
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

They also make it easier to manage a game with the DP, Flex, and EP. Instead of only having a DP and Flex. Just a couple good looking balls will be fine, you should already have them in your bucket. Plus its nice because you get them back so you always have new balls to practice with instead of waiting till the last thread on your old crappy ones break.

I don't think it is about the money so much. They usually sell the balls at the field for $3-$4 each (cheaper than you can buy them).

It is about keeping the games moving along. The teams keep track of their own game balls.

Foul balls get back onto the field a lot quicker. The umpires don't have to worry about having the game balls before the game or getting them back at the end of the game.

Hate to disagree but with triple crown it's all about the money . unlike ASA, triple crown is a buiness with each area owned by a franchisie ,so if they dont have to spend the extra money on balls it just means more money to the bottom line of the franchisie.
That beind said i agree 100% with spazdad in Utah ASA is a joke and behind the times in their thinking .. Triple crown just franchised in utah last year (not counting the world serries that's handled by corp TC. out of coloardo) Tc runs a much better tournament then ASA so we dont mind paying the extra money ..
