Careful Ron, some of us have been around awhile and would tell you to look in the mirror before you cast too many stones. You have stolen more than your share (pun totally intended) of players in EXACTLY the same way over the years. You gave it plenty, now stand up and take it when it happens to you.

How would I handle it? First, rather than confronting the person directly, I'd make sure I post the issue on a wildly popular public forum, not some unknown website like Heybucket that no one from the softball community ever looks at. Everyone knows Heybucket is only for upstanding coaches and ASA board members and no parents even know the forum exists. Then, I'd make sure I have plenty of personal dirt and issues of my own so that just in case no one cared about my grievances, they'd still have something to laugh about around the fields.

There're at least two sides to every story and the truth isn't necessarily found in the side of the story that's published first.
No courage. No game.

It’s unfortunate that things have come to this when a team which has enjoyed so much success during the season should be trying to gear up for what should be one of the most memorable times in these player’s lives. I know both parties involved and many members of both parties current and past teams.
I am surprised this coach threw this out on a public forum instead of having a face to face with the parent.
I will say it’s too bad Coach Ron’s past was brought up. I have known this man for many years and am a true believer that everyone makes mistakes. He has paid for what he did in more ways than one and has never tried to hide this from anyone. Ron chooses not to deal with any finances on his team for a reason and I think people deserve a second chance in life. That said he did open the door when he posted on a public forum.
As for Coach K. He is a great guy who is just looking for the right thing for his daughter. Yes he was a coach and I am sure the few who have blasted him here have done so because they were one of those typical team jumping parents who would rather blame the coach than anything. With that said because he has coached many parents come to him for advice and he talks to a lot of coaches at tourneys. Does this mean he is recruiting or making deals?? No…
We have had many talks about his daughters plans and not ounce has he voiced his thoughts of coaching another TB team. Possible assist on what ever team his daughter makes if the situation is right but his sights are set for another area of Softball right now.
I know of at least 5 other girls on this team who are looking for a possible new home. All of whom have echoed the same thoughts. Coach Ron is a good coach of the game but has no idea how to deal with young girls. These girls are at the age that any female or male role model in their lives will have an influence on decisions they make later. When a male role model in a young girl’s life treats her like garbage and constantly talks down to her it is the parent’s job to protect them. What does being verbally abusive every time they hit the field or make a mistake teach them? Maybe it will teach them winning means more than self respect, or for later in life that a rich abusive husband is more important then being treated right by the men in their lives. Many life lessons are learned in this game and everyone has a choice who their daughters learn those from. If you think I am over the top on the way his players are treated go watch them play or practice.

I hope these girls can put this behind them and enjoy Nationals. Good luck in Indiana!

Thanks, we needed that.

Very well-stated.

A verbally aggressive coach doesn't turn kids into submissive beings that subject themselves to abusive relationships...and why does the rich guy have to be the abuser???

No offense to the Rich Guy trust me I know middle class n junkies can smack their women around point is with a Rich guy you have a Benz n a Big house kinda makes it worth stayin (ok that was just a smart ass remark don't go gettin all crazy peps)

My reference to the rich guy is more to the fact that when winning people tend to turn their heads and feel like it is ok for a coach to treat players like dirt. "Oh he is just hard on them to get the most out of them"
I 100% feel the role models in these girls life however are a direct reflection of what is acceptable in life later. How many studies are out there about abused kids being abused later in life or being abusers themselves. Verbally aggressive is a nice way to say verbally abusive. 10 year olds do not need to be told they are stupid, lazy, incompetent, told things like "If u cant think for yourself leave your bag at the door there is no other team out there who will want you!!!" Coaches are with players a minimum of 6 hours a week up to 30 on tourney weekends, if you don't think how they treat players will affect them down the road I would argue that. Like I said if you think I am over the top go to a game and some practices and see for yourself.

I take it your DD is not being recruited for the new team.
