Who are the top 10U teams for 2012-13

by RedAlert02Coach » Tue Oct 23, 2012 2:44 pm

Whew, seems to be getting warm in here. Eric, without hesitation I can predict you will definitly be one of the top teams in Indiana. It shows based on the improvement last years team made. I only hope we're right there in the mix with ya.

Also, wanted to make sure everyone knows that we are all 02' but one. She's 03'. Never could understand why you would develop a team in fall tourneys with girls moving up unless all you cared about is winning. Takes away from the big picture.

Wow...interesting debate.

Just so everyone knows, my daughter plays catcher for the 10U Mafia Red and I am an assistant coach for the team.

First of all, congratulations to the Gators for an amazing run at the Monster Mash. It takes a lot of focus and determination to pull off 7 in a row. They have a good team, hit the ball well, field it great and threw two good pitchers at us, you can tell they are well coached and their girls play the game hard.

The Edgewood Blaze Blue is another good team, we faced them early in the year and they put the wood to us pretty good. They hit the ball all the way thru their lineup and have good pitching that will get even better by spring, I really like their coaches, good guys that keep everything in perspective.

The Red Alert gave us fits in Shelbyville, we had a heck of a Championship game with them 12-11, but made way to many errors to be able to beat a quality team.

I don't want to get into the whole ranking of 10U teams this early in the year but I will say this, until we beat those three teams they should be considered better than us and ranked higher. I do appreciate the positive comments about our team and I did take note of the negative ones, as a coach/parent my hope would be that we could focus more on the positive side and keep this a friendly rivalry.

As far as birth dates go, we have 6 players that are 02's and 3 players that are 03's (my daughter included)

Good luck to everyone as things move indoors for the winter and for those of you playing outdoors this weekend try to stay warm.

Your are right beast. We need to keep this friendly,it is after all a GAME! As the assistant coach of the 02 gators i can tell you all we are more interested in teaching our girls proper fundamentals and how that hard work doesn't go unrewarded! Than get caught up in a bunch of us hardcore parents predictions. Good luck to all the softball ladies every time they lace up their cleats!! Looking forward to a winter of work and all the good that comes from it.

Beast, you guys will be there too. There will be a bunch of us that can get it done on any given day. Then other days.......we'll be humbly reminded that they are 9/10 year olds. BTW, still like that catcher. ;)

The Zephyrs are NOT made up of 12U and 10U players. In fact, we have 3 girls who just turned 9 ('03 birthdays) and the rest are '02 birthdays. Of the '02 birthdays, most of them fall in the summer and fall, so those players are newly 10. We do have 3 players who will be 11 in the Spring.
This rumor arose during a game with the Mafia. When our girls started hitting home runs, they called a timeout and complained to the umps that we were not legal. I guarantee you that we have all of our birth certificates on hand and would be willing to display them at any time - my wife offered this to the Mafia coach and he said no. I think when the Mafia heard they were playing us, they were expecting our younger Zephyrs team, made up of 8 and 9 year olds. Yes, we have a Zephyrs '02 team and a Zephyrs '03 team.
We do have a 3 girls who are taller than average. But it's funny that, last year when we played as the Westfield Rocks, we had a girl who stood 5'9" and over 200 pounds. NO ONE played the age card then, because we weren't very good. It's funny how, when you start winning, even though 7 of our players are the same girls from last year who lost every tournament, people start complaining.
I will say the Gators '02 team is a very strong team. We fell apart during the championship games - none of our players showed up to play. However, the Gators pitching would have still got us. We'll work over the winter, and I'm looking forward to a rematch with the Gators! You are a tough team, and provide us some motivation to work hard!

Thank you for clearing that up Zephyrs. We loved playing you. Can't wait to play you again. Great coaches, kids and parents. As long as your lineup is the same in January as it was last weekend then I am all good.

I am going to guess Gators 02 don't lose a 10U tourney this year or 2013. As good as some of the other teams are I just don't see it happening.

I would take that bet as well stimp. They were tough as a young team last season beat many older teams. This will be their year to shine. Btw I have no gator affiliation just a softball fan. When they play up in the 12s we will put it on them though!lol all in good fun!

Rick I apologize for referring to your team as made up as 10u and 12u players in my previous post. I did edit it and removed that reference. My sincere apologies! I heard some talk on Sunday of it and didn't think to question it. I myself really didn't care one way or the other and was just focused on playing ball! Congratulations to you and your team for an outstanding finish to the weekend and to an excellent start for your team and organization! I always enjoy talking to you and your coaches because I feel that you are in this for the right reasons and it's good going up against good people like you! Good luck this season and we look forward to competiting against your team in the future!!

My you do seem a bunch of sporting chaps. Might I ask a question? My youngest offspring has just taken a fancy to Softball and would like to play. How would one go about getting her to have a go on one of your teams. She's a pretty average size child, and she does fancy the colorful hair ribbons and bright kits.
