Manny Mota has been there since I was in HS. Dayum!
Just think about everything you've done in the past 34 years, and all that time, Manny Mota has had the same job in Dodger Blue. Pretty cool gig if you can get it.

Mota lived on the street above me for a few years when I was a kid. My baseball team went to the finals. We won the first game and had one more game for the title. Our coach was drunk the first game went out to his car and passed out and they couldn't wake him. They were going to forfeit our game and Manny was in the park with his kids. He said can I coach the boys so they can play. The league let him. For some reason I can't remember if we won or lost. I still remember coach Holt, huge beer belly that shirt didn't cover. Shirt always missing a button or two, Palmal no filter smokes in his top pocket, face always as red as a tomato. His nose looked like if you squeezed it you would get an ounce of scotch out of it, he was a good dude.

My dad had season tickets so as a kid we would go to Dodger Stadium often. Mota was one of my favorite players and towards the end of his career he became one of the best pinch hitters. The stadium would roar when he was announced as a pinch hitter, he always had the big hit. Our seats were in the Loge Level right behind home plate Aisle 105, Box H, right underneath the KABC radio booth, price was $4 in the early 70's, by the mid 80's they were $7 each. Times have changed.
