If you are hosting and charging $45 to $50 please have at least two umpires. $50 a game and one umpire for a 16U/18U friendly is ridiculous.

I'm guilty me and about 75% of the travelball community, come on guy's you mean to tell me that you never bring in outside food? Now having a team BBQ is not a good idea and when a team did this they were never invited back to our friendlies and other teams noticed what they did also and made comments like "we don't want that team at our friendly" This is what I do I will buy a breakfast burrito, seeds and candy for the little one but for lunch I need to give my DD something that won't way her down like "burgers and hotdogs"

I'll say this once, as it has already been covered very well in a previous thread:

a) Teams host friendlies as fundraisers
b) The sole fundraiser at the friendly is the snack bar
c) If the snack bar does not make money, no funds are raised for the team
d) If no funds are raised, the team no longer hosts friendlies
e) If teams don't host friendlies, your team may be paying $400 to play 4 GG tournies
f) If TD's see that they are the only game in town, they will start charging $500 for 3GG tournies
g) Without friendlies, your DD's will not get better...in fact they will regress

Support the frickin snack bar. If it costs you $5.00 for a bad hamburger and a soda, so be it. I stopped off at a Taco Bell and a Carls Jr in Blythe & Quartzite going to/from Phoenix last week....for $13.00 I got a lousy taco, crappy taco wrap, a disgusting breakfast burger and a small fry....everybody has gotten lousy fast food....and that money doesn't go to a fundraiser to help our young ladies play softball. Suck it up, spend your $5.00 and move along.

The host team should take the time and put on a good spread, then people will WANT to patronize their concessions.....to just donate money to a team at their friendly is ridiculous..!........I can envision the advertisement...." our fields could use some work, our food is terrible, and we feature umpires-in-training, but please bring lots of cash to help out our team..."..!

Its a friendly....you're not going to play on a Field of Dreams....I would rather train umpires in meaningless games vs. tournament games....and all the food in Indiana sucks....so....just SUAP.
