There is no such degree as "pre-med". You get a degree in a subject - English, biology, physics, etc. Pre-med means that you, in addition to satisfying requirements for the degree, satisfy medical school admission requirements.

SBnut, I wish you luck in your daughter's search and her as well. If I might offer some suggestions at this point. For the schools that your daughter is interested in, check the websites to see if there are winter clinics and/or camps offered and go to them. I would sugguest writing the schools in advance, let them know she is coming and give the coach the opportunity see her over a period of time, rather than at a showcase. I know of several girls who have been recruited in just this way.
Another suggestion is to re-evaluate what level your daughter should be playing at. If she has not been given attention from top flight DI schools, then chances are she may not have what they are looking for. The laws of supply and demand apply.
Lastly, I do feel for your daughter because of the satellite field issue. I blame TD's who have allowed the showcases to grow to a size that is unmanagable. They charge all teams the same amount to enter the showcases but are not providing the same product to all the teams. It is unfair to the teams on the satellite fields. Yes coaches will go to a some of the outside fields to see players, but many will not. I have spoken to more than college coach who tell me that they would much prefer smaller showcases on one complex.

True, but if a college sends two coaches, they can better view two showcases with 50 teams each than one showcases with 100 teams.

After watching this board grow and reading some of the recent responses, I feel impelled to chime in again.
Softball is the fastest growing women's sport in the USA. Thus we have thousands of girls across the country playing travel ball. Increasingly every year recruiting has become more and more challenging.
As a college coach for the last 13 years, my recruiting expanded from maybe 10-15 pieces of mail (letters/videos/emails) a week in 1995 to 80 a day last October. I think the most important piece that needs to be discussed, beyond how the girls are getting seen at the tournaments, is how the girls are getting their foot in the door.
From my experience, if the college coach has been given a recommendation or evaluation from someone credible, the coach is more likely to take the time to TRAVEL to see the girl play (regardless of where that is). Very few times does a college coach arbitrarily venture to a game to find new recruits who were not on her primary list, or even to see those recruits who there is no pre-evaluation for(club coaches, pitching and hitting coaches, or recruiting advisors with a strong reputation vouch for the kid). Most recruiting is done by word of mouth.
The past five weekends, I attended the Showcases representing my business to see the girls I am currently working with and to scout for some college coaching friends. I cannot tell you how many times I would attend a game, sitting with college coaches, and NO representative from the teams approached us with information on the teams.
So my question to you is, who is calling the coaches on the girls' behalf? Who is representing your team to the college coaches - discussing the girls' strengths and how they would fit that particular school? How are you competing against those 80 daily emails to get the girls' foot in the door?
