What does it really mean if a coach is suspended by ASA for a year? I was under the impression that they could have NO involvement with any ASA travel team during the one year period - not sure if the one year is from the date of the incident or date of the hearing. I was also under the impression that no other ASA teams could play a team that is run by a suspended coach and I thought the players playing on his team also risked sanctions. Sorry for the arsenal of questions.
There is an arsenal of ads on eteamz for an individual that I believe was suspended by ASA last summer for umpire abuse. Wouldn't you think the Region 14 staff would unleash an arsenal of responses to these ads and this persons attempt to bypass the system?
Just wondering!
Actually, there are probably very few suspensions of coaches by ASA, itself.
There may have been local suspensions by a local association. Sometime that is just kept in-house. For ASA to get involved, the commissioner would have to hold a hearing and submit the paperwork to OKC. At that point, the surrounding locals would be notified so they can honor the suspension.
We had a SP player suspended for two years for attacking another player and umpire in a neighboring district of a bordering state, but the paperwork was never filed with OKC. However, once the local was informed and the player was discovered playing on an ASA team here, the commissioner and UIC literally took him off the field in the middle of a game. He then started complaining and making calls up the ASA ladder only to find out that the higher he went, the deeper it got. Eventually, it was decided that since he was still playing ball a year later, his suspension had not taken effect, hence the start date was reset to the day he was taken off the field. IOW, his 2-year term became a suspension of more then 3 years. Some folks just aren't too smart.
