I kid that turns 13 on Jan. 1 2009 can still play 12u for that year, correct?

I don't think so, I believe it is how ever old you are on Jan 1, is what age division you have to play in. So if she is 13 on Jan 1, would she not have to play 14U?

As I understand it ...13 on December 31st she's a 14U, 13 on on Jan 1st she is still a 12U ...

I'm pretty sure that even if she was born at 12:01 am on new years day, then she would be a 12 year old. If your birth certificate says 1/1/96, then you are a 12 year old this year.

If your birthday is 1/1, you must play in 14u. Rule is you play in whatever age division your b-day is as of Jan 1.

Just look at the year if it says 1996 she's 12u this year and next if it's 1995 she's 12u this year and 14u next year.
I just looked up the ASA Code and it is your age on 12/31 of the previous year

It was always my understanding that the cut off was Jan. 1. If you rbirthday was before Jan. 1 you moved up, on or after Jan. 1 and you could stay down. But this is the first one I've had that fell on Jan. 1.

I'm pretty sure that it's whatever age you are at the beginniing of 1/1.
That is, whatever age you are when the ball drops to bring in the new year, that is your age for softball.
So, 12:01 am on 1/1 means you're gonna be the oldest you could possible be for your age year.
Heck, technically, 12:00:01 would get to stay down, as long you came out after the stroke of midnight and the doctor put "1/1/xxxx" on your birth certificate paperwork.

If her birthday is 1/1/96 she is eligible to play 12U and if is 1/1/95 she has to play 14U after 1st of the year.
