Softball makes it simple, a 95 is a 95, a 94 is a 94. Forget the date, year only matters. Club Soccer on the other hand, is screwy, age cut off is July 31 of whatever year. For Competitive swimming (SCMAF), May 31. My DD is always in a different age group based on the sport she is playing, her b-day is in June.

I have a kid that was born on Feb 29, 2000....she's technically only two years old.....I'm thinking of having her play 10U travel in 2032 and 12U travel in 2040.....

If she lives long enough she may have an age problem in soccer or swimming then ... because technically her first birthday would actually be March 1st, her second b-day March 2nd, her 3rd and 4th would be March 3rd, 5th would be March 6th of subsequent years and so on ... by my calculations her birthday won't fall on Feb 29th for at least 486 years making her by the previously stated theory only 1 year old by then ... however, by my calculations, at best she'll be playing 406U softball in the year 2412 ...

That's right, Jan 1 is the golden b-day. Thanks for clearing it up. I know 2 girls who have birthdays the first week of January and always had the benefit up playing in the other age division. This was rec, so it worked for them.

I read an article somewhere about a study comparing birthdays with success in youth sports. I don't know all the particulars on how "success" was defined, but the survey found that youth who were born in the first half of the year were more successful than their peers who were born in the latter half of the year. The reason was simply the age-level cut-off date. Those with early birthdays became "older" sooner, and presumably were more physically developed, than those with later birthdays. This effect became less apparent in older age brackets because the difference in physical development was not as great. Kind of makes sense.

That makes sense to me. My DD's b-day is 1-26. She had the choice at 10U to move up to 12's or be a stud as a 3rd yr 10U.(started at 8) She choose to stay down. I believe this helped her develope leadership skills that she now uses as a 15 yr old. JMO

Go to page 49 (of 166). It says a player born after Dec 31st of 19??.... Remember, this is 2008 code.

She will be 12U eligible for '09.

Just like I said before Day and Month of Birth have nothing to do with age classifications in ASA it is strictly the "birth year" if your player has the same birth year as a kid born 7/31/?? or 1/2/?? then that is there age classification. When and if you read the rule book it will be very clear.
