Have there always been girls this tall?

Dallas E. in Phoenix is 6 foot tall and 190 lbs, she has verballed to pitch for ASU. Kenzie F is just as big or bigger and she has signed with U of A , Shelby ____ , from CO. has verballed with U of A and she is also pushing 6 feet. All of these girls are pitchers. So, as I think of some of the greats like Cat, FInch and Abbott, I wonder where all of these 6 foot tall women used to be?

I am not even talking about basketball where it isn't unusual for a woman to be 6'5".

I am 5'9" and there were only 1 or 2 women in my graduating class (35 yrs. ago) that were 6 foot tall - and they weren't athletes. They were basically the last ones picked for teams.

I wonder if there's any truth to the growth hormones in the foods we eat? I have even noticed that if you are under 5'6" in softball, you're considered short. Which I don't think was even a big deal in softball until recent years.

It's funny to see Kelly Montalvo standing in the infield huddle though.

Then someone figured out that you don't have to be an athlete to use your long arms to throw a pitch really hard, or rebound a basketball or take three steps jump and hit a volleyball. Where you notice how most of those tall girls are still spazzes is when the pitcher charges that bunt or the BBall center tries to dribble in the open court or when the Middle Blocker tries to set a pass when the setter trips. It is funny as hell to see. How many of those pitchers you mentioned have been competitive in other sports where size was not the main prerequisite?

The number of tall girls who are really athletic is still very small though. Think Venus Williams or some of the forwards in the WNBA. Some OHs in Volleyball are extremely athletic like Logan Tom, and soccer players like Abbi Wambach.

That is the reason that an athletic girl of 5'9" can still dominate so many different sports.

They weren't really "spazzes". just kinda ackward when moving like a giraffe on qualudes. I had the biggest crush on a girl like that in 7th grade, she towered over me and was very self conscious of how much taller she was than all the boys. It was like she had no idea of how attractive she really was, too bad I was too intimidated by her (and girls in general) to ask her out.

Last tournament, went to the plate for the coachs meeting to start the game, two of the players from the other team came for that team, both of these little darlings were taller than me, I'm 6.1. I said 'Rule sheet local tournament rules says "Any players taller than opposing coach are disqualified.", I just got it from the TD."
