You Coached SP and MP? I dont think I have EVER seen a coach at a SP or MP game. Wow. Great job getting all those 30yo men into a huddle and executing your game plan. I never listened to a "coach" after my mid twenties.

Really? Guess you just played whatever position and batted where you wanted, hit and bunted if and when you felt like it, did nothing to help protect a stealing teammate and couldn't understand why your teammate wasn't moving on the pitch when you decided the hit and run was a good idea.

BTW this past thanksgiving I umpired a game of Candy Land, a game of Battle Ship, and the first half of a flag football game.

What happen to the second half, did the players figure that since there was no need for a coach, an official was a waste of time, also?

You are more than wasting your time. When Ace is not pretending to be the coach of a top ranked HS team, a top travel team, he is pretending to be a world class SP player. He stands alone in that he has never made a single post which would even hint at any knowledge of this game, strategy, player training, or least of all, rules. I'm surprised this honesty challenged individual is not pretending to have received an invite to be on the USA Slow Pitch Team http://www.asasoftball.com/about/getStory.asp?nid=1752 for border battle; but of course, those are apparently dorks, since they have a coach. Maybe he is too good to be on that team.

The funny part is, between the two of you, one of you has his name listed in the Hall of Fame in OKC for slow pitch, and one of you doesnt...

Other people actually succeed offline. And btw I never said I managed a top tb team. Just an average team of kids that works their butts off, like ninety percent of the other tb teams. You should give it a try, if you can find 12 players that will listen to you preach to them about your own brilliance. I dont know what your problem with me is? If I did coach them, I wouldnt think only dorks need coaches and I wouldnt consider them just average. That's pretty harsh ace.

I just meant that there are teams (sp) that show up on a wednesday night, in full gear with a "coach" holding a clip board and telling 14 grown men what to do. Its funny. those are usually the I.T. guys from the local insurance company. When you play SP, the guy who coaches third is the last out, or the guy standing closest, or the guy who just finished smoking. Not a "coach".

Well, at the time of the bunting statement, I was still referring to MP as part of the conversation, but you moved over to SP and I missed the transition. However, stealing has become an integral part of SP softball for nearly a decade now.

Yeah, right. You got all of that out of me responding to those who believe an umpire is an umpire only and has no other experience in the game. Unlike yourself, I made no mention of my accomplishments in those fields, only that I have experienced that part of the game. If you have developed some other type of feelings due to those references, that is your problem, not mine. Good luck.

Actually nowadays, every competitive, and quite a few recreational, SP teams out there have a manager/coach that does nothing, but coach. And yes, that includes deciding the line-up, defensive positions, when the pitch is removed, when to and not to attempt a steal, manning the 3rd base box, and occasionally, call a practice and offer direction and advice to players.

The gentleman selected to coach Team USA for the Battle of the Border is a full-time coach and he is very good at it. The players will respect his decisions and accept his advice. And he knows how to communicate with umpires.
