Difference in FP & SP Fielders Gloves ?

What's on your mind?

by GIMNEPIWO » Fri Dec 12, 2008 7:56 am

Wilson no longer makes DD's glove of choice ... I see one very similar however it is designated as a slow pitch glove ... what could possibly be the difference between a FP and a SP fielders glove since we are dealing with a 12" ball in both cases ?

IMO, and having played both, nothing. I'm sure a tech rep will tell us something different.

DD used my Rawlings IF glove for @ 6 months before we realized we liked our gloves completely different (I re-lace most of mine). She moved to a Nokona and now I like hers better.

I will say I have to use a batting glove in my OF glove because the finger holes are too big. Maybe that's it? It all depends on what web, size, and glove feel you like.

I just ordered my DD a glove from Nokona and according to them the glove is the same cut as their Baseball glove. The FP gloves have a cool max liner in the glove so it creates a snugger fit to accommodate a females hand. I questioned them on this because I ordered a AMG600KFP and on the glove it is stamped AMG600KCW. There is a FP with a circle around it in the palm. My advice is to call the manufacturer of the glove and ask them.

The major differences are:
A fastpitch glove usually has an athletic female attached to it.
A slow pitch glove usually has a fat, beer-drinking guy attached to it.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

I think we've only ever bought exactly two "Fastpitch" gloves... a terribly floopy Akadema 12" that wasn't even 12", and a Kelly G-Lite 12", which was pretty good though has very little palm padding.

All the other gloves my two daughter have used and are using are 12" or 12.5" baseball gloves -- Wilson A2K (three), Wilson A3000 (two, but lost one), Rawlings Pro Preferred 12.75", etc.

The Wilson A2k has won in the end. It breaks in after about three hours of catch and lasts about 1.5 seasons. It is light, and some models have that wrist tensioning thing that synches around small wrists to keep the glove on snug. Plus you can usually get last years new in wrapper model for about $135 or $140 on ebay.

LMAOWIOAB! Well, that is how we usually tell the difference between all my DD's gloves and mine ... however, nowhere on the Wilson web site does it say anything about Athletic Female or Fat Beer Slurping Has-Been included ...

I just noticed the FP and the SP designation and the numbers are worn off the ones currently being used ... so I don't know if we have FP, SP or Baseball gloves now ... that is except for the attached accessories ...

I did contact Wilson but they have not yet responded ...

How long do gloves last? Were you joking when you said 1.5 seasons? I was hoping that this glove would last my DD through HS. I still have my glove that I used when I was a kid.
