Question on SparklerAll Star Game Showcase

What's on your mind?

by whatever » Wed Dec 17, 2008 3:22 pm

DD going to CO tourney first time. Deadline is today to enter this "Showcase Game". They want $100 for a guaranteed 4 innings of play. DD is 14. Will anyone care? Is this a waste of money?

Because you're under deadline I'll add what I know, tho others likely know a lot more! :o ;)

We went to Colorado Fireworks 14u last summer, great tournament in all respects.

It's my understanding that the Sparkler is really nothing more than Triple Crown Sports corporate effort to take advantage of the fact that so many college scouts are in town that week to see players in the higher age divisions (16's and 18's) at other tournaments. And that the Sparkler doesn't hold a candle to those other tournaments.

I'm not sure if that means anything with respect to 4 innings in a 'showcase' game, esp at 14u.
Unless they guarantee 4 innings of pitching or catching, there's really no guarantee your kid will get much of a chance to show her stuff. And even then... it's the Sparkler.

It would be good to know what the other events are doing that day / time, because if they're going hard core in Aurora or Boulder at the same time, most scouts will be at those events.

IMO, go to the Fireworks!

Triple Crown used to host true All-Star games at the World Series in Park City. Then I saw that they started charging for it. It seems that everything for Triple Crown has become some sort of money maker.

Yes, there will be college coaches in Colorado all week...but frankly, unless your DD is already on the coaches' radar, or another DD who is on your DD's team, or a coach happens to be watching the team that your team is playing and is EXTREMELY impressed with your DD, then the coaches are not there to see her.

And I agree that most college coaches do not have the time to scout out the 14's. They are checking out the 16's for early prospects and the 18's to pick up players to fill holes in their program.

I agree with everything said....Save your money and send out letters and have the coachs come to you. I have seen the "All Star" game before and it is kind of a joke. Anyone and everyone is allowed to play.

Letters and emails will work better.......

That is an understatement. What do you know? You sure add a lot to conversations but never really say anything.
