What will your post be when USC finishes ahead of Texas in the final rankings? Because they had to come from behind and win in the last seconds against a team that USC beat pretty easily.

And BTW, I hate the U of Spoiled Children.

The BCS title game should have been USC v. Florida, if the idea were to match up the two best teams in the country.

Texas had a tough time beating the #2 team from a conference that went 0-6 in bowl games. And the Longhorns beat Oklahoma on a neutral field.

I'm not saying the Sooners have no chance on Thursday night. Anything can happen in any one game.

The perception early on was that the Pac-10 was weak this year because of those non-conference losses to Mountain West Conf. teams. I suppose the SEC teams were smart to avoid that conference as long as possible, .... right up to the Sugar Bowl.

And this statement is why I posted a slightly obnoxious post to the USC'ers. When you break your streak of losing to unranked teams, then we'll talk.

I will admit USC is a great team (despite other things I hate about them), TX should have done a much better job in their rush defense, and Pryor is an extremely talented kid. BUT, a W is a W, and there wasn't a doubt in McCoy's mind that they could do it. That is what I love about them.

They go right along with the thread about not giving up. Oh, and I'm taking OU over FL.

Because of the perception that the Pac 10 was weak this year. In no small part because they tanked against the Mountain West Conference this year.

Whoops! Utah pounded an SEC team, that was #1 for 5 weeks, in a BCS bowl game.

Whoops! The Pac 10 went 5-0 in their bowl games.

That said, I have no problem with the two teams that are in the championship game. I suspect USC may very well be the strongest team in the nation. But they have to find a way not to slip up once a year against a conference foe that is not their equal. Alas, it is very hard to be perfect playing in a major conference.

Which brings us to Utah. Yes I am quite sure that Florida would beat them and USC would absolutely destroy them but Utah DOES have a great argument. They beat some ranked teams, won one of the major bowls in convincing fashion and went undefeated. I think they would have been in the championship game if they would have done like USC and played one big time contender in their non conference schedule. They tried to do that but Michigan deciding to have the worst season in the history of the program may have submarined Utah (as Virginia and Nebraska did to USC the last couple of years).

They may be the ones to leapfrog to #2.

At the time, both Oregon State and Ol Miss were both unranked. At the last rankings, Ol Miss was 20th and OSU was 24th. Florida lost at home and SC lost on the road in the same game week. Ol Miss and OSU both won their bowl games.

The only undefeated team that played a strong schedule was Utah. Other than that, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Alabama, USC, Penn State and Texas Tech were all 1 loss. So they all lost games they probably should have won.

As a biased observer I thought SC and Florida were the two best teams, but Big12 histeria bumped up those teams rankings even after they lost. I think everyone realized TT (duh) and Bama (anyone watch the Bama/LSU game?) were pretenders, that SC would dominate Penn State, and that Texas and Ohio State were not THAT good. But once ESPN jumped on the Big12 bandwagon, there was no hope for SC (or Utah for that matter).

You would think that ESPN analysts would have figured out that the common component of the best college teams are the head coaches (ya think?). By any measure Pete Carroll, Urban Meyer and Nick Saban (and maybe Kyle Whittingham) are great coaches, Jim Tressell, Mack Brown and Bob Stoops are great coaches during the season, but mediocre during the post season, and Joe Paterno may have once been a great coach (but who knows now). If all the teams have somewhat comparable talent, the games can be picked based on whose coaching the games. Of those teams above, only Bama and Utah had significantly lesser talent. Give Saban another year or two and the SEC can be renamed the Flori-Bama conference.

In summary: Florida by several touchdowns. Stoops is probably the worst big game coach of the bunch.

My 2c worth. ;)

Ole Miss is one of the hottest teams in college football and should finish ranked around 12-13.
I watched TT and Texas. If they are any indication of the rest of the big12 south then OU will get smoked!!!!!!!!
