Tips for hitting the "rise ball..."

forgive my poor diagram , but am i to believe that a riseball moves foward than up

not sure but wouldn't this go against the laws of gravity? not that i would no what those laws are.
i believe i remember an interview with jennie finch and she referred to pitch as "appearing to rise up"

Your right. They dont rise. You will hear people argue that they do, that they have seenit, that its true, yada yada. You wont get them to admit they are wrong and you just have to be ok with the fact that some people just believe that Elvis is still alive, and some people dont.

I could really care less which direction it moves........we were really hoping for some introspective dynamite from our west coast friends on how to recognize AND hit a rise ball...! I would ascertain from the input thus far.......if it's a stike HIT IT..! If not, don't swing..! Pretty good advice..thanks to everyone that cared to weigh-in on the subject..!...JG...

They will say it is mathematically impossible for either hummingbirds or helicopters to fly.

Luckily, those machines or the birds are not aware of that.

They will say a rise ball does not rise.

Then the girl who just whiffed the 2-2 pitch, swinging under it about 8 inches, will go walking to the dugout hitting her helmet with her hand because she knows she just got got.. and the catcher in your diagram will have caught the ball right in front of my face. I doubt she is thinking "that ball didnt rise because that would go against gravity".

Jenny Finch's world famous rise ball has whiffed the best of em.

On any other FP forum, a riseball thread would start quickly turn to whether it actually rises or not. Not HB though, it starts out with how to hit it/lay off it then wanders over to mens FP before meandering down to the gay bathhouse and five pages later here we are at the whole "does it rise?" question.

Pretty much more or less stayed on topic the whole time though, is that a first?

I saw a video years ago from a riser filmed from the side and it sure looks like it went up. When you are in the box [front of the box:) ] it sure looks like the ball goes up.
