Graduate School?

Is there financial assistance with graduate school like scholarships? Anyone ever dealt with it?

There are academic scholarships for graduate students- some require students to be TA(teaching asst). Both my step brothers did multiple years aquiring multiple graduate degrees. I am also aware of asst coaches that are graduate students that receive either partial scholarships or some kind of break

Also, if player is still ncaa elegibility they could still receive sports money

I would check with individual schools as well

Not to state the obvious but it will depend on the degree program and the institution. Generally, if the degree (Masters or PhD) requires a thesis and research then typically there will be a stipend coming from the grant supporting the research. This often requires that the student either teach a class and/or run labs as part of receiving the stipend. For graduate programs where there is no thesis (many professional Masters programs) then there may/may not be aid other than need based financial aid.

At 1 of the 3 schools I attended the they always chose Grad students 1st for RA's in the dorms (giving them a big housing fee break) as they were more mature.

Then again that may have changed with the drinking age going up to 21 thereby eliminating said schools "liberal" alcohol policy. Which was 2 quarter kegs per suite (3 rooms) or 4 per floor

How about occupational therapy or physical therapy? Anyone have any dealing with that or know someone that has? A Masters is required.

Friend of DW is a PT - has her own practice so I asked. She said:

1) a PhD is mandatory these days for Physical Therapists.
2) Getting the PhD - It's just like going to med school - there are usually no grants or aid. You just borrow the money and end up with a bunch of debt you hope you can pay off when you start working.

The DPT is generally a 3-year program. There are some schools that offer a 3+3 program for the BS and DPT. A few programs accept freshmen and allow them to advance into the professional program after they've completed some undergrad courses (no BS, lol).

Thanks guys. Looks like I will be paying out the ass for the years after college ball. After all the money that I've spent before college ball, there's just something that's not right with that...

Lots of companies offer a tuition reimbursement programs( mine does). Perhaps she can start working an get her masters

I hear ya on that. First, PDad is right, i called it a PhD but it's a DPT to be precise. My DD is working part time in the trainers office ("Dad, I've spent so much time there, I might as well get paid to do something there") and is starting to think about PT as a career. Not thrilled about the possibility of having to underwrite 3 more years of school but I have to respect anyone who has the passion to do this....
