Tips for hitting the "rise ball..."

What's on your mind?

One, do you even read the posts before you shovel out your statements? I'm saying that your bugs bunny pitch (or whatever you called it) doesn't exist, which is the same thing you are saying, if I am filtering through your BS correctly, even though some people seem to think that it does. Yes, they may curve down less than other pitches, that I agree with...but they don't actually curve upwards. Some people swear that they do, and a good one may even appear that way, but it just doesn't happen.

Two, are all umpires in the Mecca of fastpitch as arrogant as you? Seriously, I usually sympathize with umpires in most cases for the crap they put up with, but if your attitude towards players and coaches in your games is anything at all like what you have portrayed on this message board since you started posting, I feel sorry for teams that draw you in tournaments. That's just the opinion of a poor old dum hillbilly, take it for what it's worth.

It's not people that need convincing.

It's video cameras filming riseballs in profile that aren't convinced. It's the computer software used to track the flight trajectory of the ball that isn't convinced. It's gravity that isn't convinced. It's the study that shows a ball spinning beyond the the limits of human capability and still not "hopping" above it's original trajectory, that isn't convinced.

Well hell, I had no idea.

You know, every since I saw forest gump shake JFK's hand, I gotta see it for myself. No internet buddies of nasa guys or animated pujols gifs convince me of anything.

Lets see your evidence.

Wade, the test was two years ago as I recall, the pitcher was Sarah Pauly, Scott Sarginson, a travel coach from California and Sarah's dad Rick, a pitching coach were the ones involved. It was written up on eteamz - maybe some clever person can find the thread. I think the test started with all 3 believing that it did break and wanting to prove it.

The study was posted on a web site (doubt it's still up). The study actually convinced Rick Pauly, the believer of believers, that his daughter's rise ball did not defy gravity.

I won't even bother looking for the study as it won't matter anyway. Big Foot, Lochness, rise balls breaking up.....doesn't matter. Some people can't be convinced by any study or lord god jehova himself.

Besides, It's fun to watch 'em dance.

Not only does it not hop, it does not rise above it's original trajectory. It just drops less than other pitches.

Nah. I rarely have problems on the field. Most like me very much. But you probably dont read situations any better than you analyze pitches or people ;) and its a very good thing you gave up umpiring with that poor attitude you have. People dont like debbie downer mopers

Also, why is it your side must attack the poster so often and not the argument? There is only of us who actually has posted pics and profiles of a rise ball rising due to movement. Me.

Stick to the debate, no need to resort to personal attacks.

Ah, I see. Personally, I try to be the same person online that I am in real life.

Did you read my first paragraph? I thought I was talking about the argument, but maybe I wasn't clear. I really think we think alike on what a rise ball does or doesn't do, but you're so confrontational by nature (at least on this website) that you just immediately bark back when anyone asks you a question, without paying attention to what is said.

Are you saying that a rise ball has a path similar to the black (curving) line on this page? Because if you are, then we aren't in agreement, but I don't think that is the case.

Edit>> BTW, a comment from you about others resorting to personal attacks was at least good for a laugh during my lunch, thanks :)

Just curious ... have you ever caught a knuckler ?... tried to hit a knuckler ?... been hit a knuckler ?... I'm just bringing this up firstly because so much time has been spent on the neccessary spin/rotation to enable a ball to have any movement and secondly, because Wade needs time to go to the Frig and Jofus can't find his Prozac...

There is no science. There is no comprehensive scientific study. You guys flat out invented it. Some daddy baller making red lines on an animated gif is not a scientific study or science. Worse, that animated gif you flat earth scientists have pinned your hopes on appears to show a slightly altered trajectory anyway.

I really expected better from guys so adamant they have "science" on their side. Hopefully you guys do better than some weak sauce name calling at some point in this debate. I dont expect you too, but it would be a refreshing change of pace for those preaching science..to actually present some.

This season, one of you guys with a super duper camera who catches a good 18g/college /mens fp pitcher and gets a chance to film from the profile him/her throwing a rise please utube it. I dont want to see some 14U throwing a rise. I want someone who can throw a rise and lets look at it. It would be interesting to analyze and certainly more productive than anything the flat earthers have offered.

Well Wade, since you seem at least as adamant that the pitch does rise (and condescendingly so, I might add), why don't you post your own proof on the subject? You no doubt have it readily at hand.
