How is your softball hangover today?

So here is my new list of top NorCal teams adding the PGF Bid* into the calculation.
This is my “We have ours now who is next list.”

In no particular order(nudge budge wink wink).

*SS (Jimenez) – This team is pretty good, sucks they can’t play in a PGF qualifier to see how well they really are. I guess we will have to wait until Aug 3rd to see what they can really do when it is on the line. I thought the loss to OC Batbusters 02 team showed that they just might not be this good, but Fresno lost to them too and look what Fresno just did this weekend. Even though this year’s bid was not earned, they still play like a team that could win one. Let’s hope they live up to the free invite.

*FF 01 – Looked like a juggernaut this past weekend they went 4-0 outscoring their opponents 46-4.

*LTG – Team looks strong going 5-1 only losing to Fresno.

Team CA – This team is on the move. Wonder if they will get more props after this weekend. I looked back at most of the “lists” and they are always at the bottom. Good job this weekend CA, keep it up.

CA Breeze – Another team playing well and outlasting some of the bigger teams that usually float at the top of these lists.

KG Hitters – Tough tourney only going 1-2 giving up 15 runs for the weekend.

Foothill Gold – Only went 1-2

Firecrackers did not do much this weekend to move them up the list.

San Jose Sting – I was asking a friend of mine if Sting was the best of San Jose. He said “No not the best, but the Beast of San Jose.” Well … umm… going 1-2 did not help with support that title. They did however beat OBS 8-0. I wonder if the scouting helped from the coach that switched teams.

OBS – Another team to only get one win. Wonder if the loss of the player or the coach had anything to do with this… I guess only time will tell.

Side Note 1. Did anyone else notice just how bad the teams from San Jose did this weekend? The Sting, Synergy, Lady Sharks and Strikkers had a combined win/loss of 1-8 and only scoring an avg of 3 runs a game while giving up an avg of 8. Remind me to not drink the water the next time I am in San Jose… ugh. Better luck next tourney san Jose.

Side note 2.. had a lot of time on my hands this weekend sitting in-between games and then the long drive home. Has anyone else read the post. Under – Regional News – CA – Top 12u teams in the country. It is a great post with teams from all over. Some have great detail as to why they are top in the nation. My only issue with it regarding NorCal is that I think Salinas made it by default. They have Salinas as a top 20 in the nation.. not too sure about that…

Let the crying begin…

After this weekend it looks like Team CA should move up and SS(J) should drop a few.

I guess I will start it off.. I Got some mixed reviews about the RR Gold - Memorial Day Shoot-Out. Basically it was a glorified friendly. No pool play and seating pulled from a hat for bracket play. I always thought that if you bust your ass on Sat (and Sun) you get the better time and seeding on Sun or Mon in this case. This was a terrible idea, especially if they are not going to have “Drop Dead “games. Why waste everyone’s time to play their last game 1 or 2hrs late.

RR took the records down so we don’t have the W/L for Sat & Sun, but I guess it really does not matter.

Was told Fresno would win “Hands Down” as one coach told me. Maybe next time.

Storm got knocked out by Team CA. Shocker? I don’t think so, Team CA has been playing pretty good lately. Does it still count as a “one and done” if you get to play two games on your final day? If so, this is the first of the season for Storm this year.

Sting lost to LTG, again not too surprised because Sting has not been playing well lately.

Great job LTG for winning the Gold Bracket. Not too sure who won the other, no one has updated it with a winner or the winners of the consolation games. Maybe Storm went “ 2 and done.”

First of all everyone can appreciate the traditional type of tournament. As of Gary's tournament that's what u had with a single elimination and three different brackets. If he had more teams we could have seen about 4-5 brackets and a lot of blow outs during pool play.

As of rr gold this season with the 12u bracket. They got to see a lot of good games all weekend long. I'm talking about all teams from pools a-d at their caliber. Pool A was for sure the most competitive. When was the last time we seen a competitive weekend like this. 8 games of good competition and you couldn't point out who was going to win before each game. I think it was more than a glorified friendly, every team was out to win. They played a complete game and even had some walk offs. Every team was tested to use more than 1 pitcher and players from the whole roster.

Nobody went undefeated this weekend in Stockton 12u

In my thoughts the blind draw wasn't a bad idea because at the end u still had ur upsets.
But of course, the field crew could have done a better job, some games ran late. 30min to an hour. Drop dead would have been great and probably would have gave them more time for better maintenance. Umpiring was ok. I guess we will never have a perfect tournament but next year we will see where the competition goes. As we all know there are a lot of local rec teams that are out there and some teams dodged them. IMO Stockton was a good thing.

Question remains.... Tradition format vs . A new format

I would agree 100%. Great games and solid teams getting after it. I would also agree drop dead would help. I know they tried to keep it close to on time and even moved a game so the two teams waiting could get started. I thought it was a solid weekend of softball topped off by a great championship game. If you saw it you know what I'm talking about. Those girls where getting after it!

I think us parents in Sac area tend to accept the poorly run tournaments in the area and not voice our opinions enough.

Here are our grips for this past weekend. Others should not be afraid to contact the TDs and give their input. I know Ybarra clearly posts on his site that he would like feedback.

First of all why should parents, players, and coaches accept playing softball on a baseball diamond? For those of you that did not know, Ybarra used a baseball field for games on Saturday and Sunday. That's right, the entire field was dirt nearly to the home run fence. Wow, common coaches say something. Your paying big dollars to pay in these tournaments.

RR did not keep scores posted on the web. In this day and age I think everyone expects to see how teams are doing. Common RR. Really? Where you too busy counting your money? Lets post those scores.

Lets speak up parents, players, and coaches.

I know the TDs will now have their people get on HB and say how great a tournament it was yada...yada...yada.

I agree. we played on the baseball field. I wasn't totally disappointed until I read your post about the dollars we pay to play. The RR lack of updates is definitely a negative to us that like to keep up with what's going on.
