Why Elite?

What's on your mind?

by blackwidow » Tue Jan 20, 2009 10:37 am

I've noticed a new crop of 12U and 14U teams calling themselves (name) Elite?
ie..Franchise elite, Nemesis Elite, Mirage Elite etc..
What is the purpose of this? Do they think it sounds better than the original name? Does it mean the players are better?
To me it sounds kind of stupid especially since it's becoming more prevalent and these are not even 18U teams.
Any thoughts?

I think that some teams have started doing this to distance themselves from their organizations in a way.....Maybe their team is a very good team in an organization full of average or below average teams.....Maybe it helps them in recruiting???

Not in the case of SoCal Primetime = class group
primetime elite = well, you know what I mean!?

One way to steal a name.

What is next, Softball Soldiers Elite

With the exception of Nemesis (I have no idea why they did it before my time), I think it is because of sponsorship. I know Tai Sports is getting into sponsoring more teams & they carry the Elite name brand. This is the reason for the new OC "Elite" organization getting their name. Someone had mention that about Cerritos Franchise also, now they have become Cerritos Elite, but I do not know if this is true or not. I am sure someone from that organization can clarify that.

I read on the Nemesis website once that in order to be called Nemesis Elite, that team had to attend Nationals once or twice (don't recall). So if the 95 team made it to nationals as a 1st and 2nd year 10U, then their 12U year they would be called Elite
It's better to keep your mouth shut and look like you're stupid......
than to open it and remove all doubt.

Elite Premier Superior Ultimate Gold; and the only reason we have gold in our name is because we use that color! It's the rage in Florida, too.
