Even if they were brats its the coaches responsibility not to allow that to happen especially when one of the brattest was a coaches kid. So all I am saying is be careful and if you can be on a 97 team why not? Who wants to keep moving from team to team when the older girls move up.

My dd is 11('97) a lot of the teams around here are looking for '96's. Am I better to try and find someone that will look at a '97 or spend the next 8 months strengthening her game and trying out in the fall. I have a team I would love for her to play with but they and many others wont even look at a 97 with no "travel" experience. She has played on the local league weekend teams. What to do?

Don't tell them how old she it, go and try out and IF they want her THEN let them know she's younger. IF she'd good enough, then she can move up with the team every year if she wants or can stay in 12U. That might sound unethical, but sometimes you just got to get 'r done!

If what you say is true ... How do you expect a Coach that can't keep his one hormonal daughters head out of her own butt to do that with 15 of them ... that being said, if any parent, player or Coach is more concerned about a 1 year age difference than with talent they need their heads examined ( presumably by a proctologist )... but if the younger gal doesn't want to play up, that's another issue .....

In our area, middle school or intermediate school begins in 7th grade. We have found that on 12u teams,the girls tend to divide themselves by what level of school they are attending (elementary or intermediate) not their age. A 12u team could have girls that attend elementary school and girls that attend intermediate school. Most coaches will take the best talent and play them iregardless of their age, but the social issues that can occur when you have elementary students and intermediate age students should not be under estimated. Parents deal with this in HS when a 14 year old freshmen makes a team that has 18 and 19 year old Seniors. Talent may be the same, but socially they have really no business being together.

If you have to go with an older team, take a look at what grade the students on that team are in. If the majority are in the same grade as your daughter it may be a more enjoyable experience for her.
