I just saw a article which quotes MLB's Bud Selig

"While Alex deserves credit for publicly confronting the issue, there is no valid excuse for using such substances, and those who use them have shamed the game," Selig said.

I must confess, there is something about Bud Selig that makes my flesh crawl. I think the media should be chastising Selig and the rest of MLB ownership for being absolutely blind to drugs & steroids which boost performance. Can Selig really be as big of a moron as he would like us to believe?

I agree with you, Selig should drop the "Holier than thou" speach when it was just as much his and the union boss's (Fehr) fault for not instituting something right away when they first got wind of the roids.

I admit I loved the home run race with MacGuire and Sosa and all the extra homeruns we have seen over last few years. Do you think the players in the 20's-80's would have taken them to get an extra edge ( say millions of dollars), I have know doubt they would have, roids just wasn't available.

Screw the millions of dollars.
I'm thinking about the billions of dollars MLB ownership has made or is protecting with the value of their franchises since the "steroid era" started. Then MLB rewarded many of these players with big contracts & attention, instead of questioning how McGuire & Sosa both looked more like Hereford & Angus bulls, respectively, during the HR race than their rookie baseball card pictures. Go ahead and throw Bonds in there too.

To pretend that MLB had no idea of what was going on for over a decade really defies all logic and credability. If you read the book "Ball Four", Jim Bouton describes bowls of speed laying around the dugout and the clubhouse like bowls of M&M's back in the late 60's. Anything to help the players put on a better show.

To come after the players and the former players now with the injured air that Selig projects boggles my fevered mind. I hope he chokes on a hunk of polish sausage during the Brewer home opener.

What about the other 103 that tested positive in the same screening (and I'm sure there have been others)? Oh, yeah, their names haven't been leaked yet (that I've heard, anyway). That's fair....

I wonder how many of them were pitchers?

Think back ... at the same time all of this was going on, there was much talk about bringing fans back to the game ... speeding up the game ... making the game faster etc etc etc .... anyone who denies that MLB new what was going on is the same person that believes that the government doesn't lie to you just because you pay taxes ...

Selig got a $3 million raise in 09. Wasn't baseball going under until Mcguire/ Sosa in the 90's? Who really benefited from the steroid era?A-Rod shamed himself and his family. Baseball owners and regulators shamed the game!

The owners and Selig didn't mind the roids when the public wasn't sure of them yet. What a bunch of hypocrites! Release all the names and really man up to the issue!

Oh, the little red riding hood defense. My Barry, you keep hitting home runs better than you did when you were younger. My Mark, you hit more home runs than singles, that normal. Sammy, are you related to grapes? You all keep getting better with time? Guess what MLB, you can't hide. What's bad is as fans we allowed it and now we want to be pissed.
