lower back pain

What's on your mind?

by 3Bsnag » Tue Feb 17, 2009 11:49 am

Glad to hear all of this and appreciate the comments.

DD isn't a pitcher, but complains of back pain/tightness, along with 4 of her friends. We had 5 of our six volleball starters this year with back problems, and only 1 of those is a pitcher. Funny how it always starts during v-ball season, but lingers on during basketball and track.

I agree that the Doctor is the 1st place to go when your DD is experiencing chronic back pain.
The stretches that I posted though would be an appropriate exercise for anyone's DD particularly in the 11 yr old and up age range during those rapid growth spurts. The problem with most of our kids is that stretching is not fun and they don't hurt now so why bother - even if they do stretch it is usually half hearted and a wasted effort. I won't get into the static vs dynamic stretching but both are important. A great many of the injuries in softball are preventable if they would take the time and effort to stretch.

Had DD checked no problem other than growing, stretching seems to offer relief, will work on strengthening core, she pitched a shutout last night middle school, lost 2-1, throwing errors !!

I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure you have to not allow a run to have a shutout.
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

At least there was a new complaint last night, butt and hamstrings are sore. It must be track season!
