Best Concert: Clapton (multiple times but from the 80's) - a religious experience for dh and I

Worst Concert: Genesis (great if you liked 45 minute songs)

Best Live Bar Show: Albert Collins - Chicago - the "Master of the Telecaster" (plugged in the longest cord he had and strolled onto Sheridan Road w/whole bar behind him - played in the middle of the street!

Guess we'll be showing our ages here!

Best Concert--Rush (pick a tour). Close too were Crosby Stills & Nash--amazing live; Eagles, Hell Freezes Over; Elton John--Funeral For a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is perhaps the single best song I've seen performed live; Scorpions--loved this band when I was younger, and saw them many times.

Worst Concert--Def Leppard. Saw them as an opening act for Loverboy. Everyone went to see Def Leppard b/c Pyromania had been released and was the hottest album in the country, but the band was stuck finishing up its touring obligations. Thing was, Loverboy kicked their ass...they were surprisingly good live. Went to see Loverboy again in a smaller venue many years later. The lead singer must have been pushing 300 pounds...hilarious.

Bar show...Great White. I understand that their performance is incendiary. (Yes, I know...that was in very poor taste.)

Worst: Joe Cocker...wasted!

Wow, that is tough.

One of the best would have to be Depeche Mode at the Rose Bowl. During Blasphemous Rumours, Dave is singing "I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours, but I think that God's got a sick sense of humor..." he points to the sky for God and the sky lights up with lightening. Truely amazing. Gave me the chills. Had tickets on the floor, 10th row NICE!!!

Hard to choose between Oingo Boingo's farewell concert, DP Live, or any U2 Concert.

P.S. DP coming August 16th and 17th. I CAN'T WAIT. Still waiting on U2 dates.

Best Live Bar show: David Bromberg, even though I was drunk and he called me an As*hole from the stage

Skarp - Rush is DH's favorite band as well(w/Zep) - took 14yo ds to Snakes & Arrows last year. I ask you - who plays long enough these days to have to have an intermission - nobody but Rush.

We loved the Scorpions live too...

Best concert is very, very difficult to choose - Deep Purple with Coverdale in 74, Led Zeppelin in 77, Springsteen in 78, the original Black Sabbath in 78, Stones in 81, REM in 87, Stones again in 97, B.B. King in 07.

Worst concert - easy. Electric Light Orchestra at Chicago Stadium sometime in the 70s. The sound was so horrible, I could not even tell what song they were playing. The staging was pretty cool tho.

Best Live Bar Show - Duke Tumatoe and the Power Trio - no one comes close.

Skarp - Rush is DH's favorite band as well(w/Zep) - took 14yo ds to Snakes & Arrows last year. I ask you - who plays long enough these days to have to have an intermission - nobody but Rush.

We loved the Scorpions live too...

Talent-wise, Rush is the best band ever assembled. It is an intellectual's band. Peart is the best drummer and lyricist in rock...hands-down. Nobody is even close. Geddy Lee is the best bass player and the best keyboardist in rock--and in concerts will often play bass pedals, the keyboard, and sing, all at the same time. Ridiculous. Finally, the unsung Alex Lifeson is one of the very best lead guitarists in rock (one listen to La Villa Strangiato live should end all debate about that. And of course the studio version is ridiculous. Sounds like they brought Andres Segovia in to play.).

Rush is an acquired taste though. Many people can't get past Lee's voice or the subject matter of their material (philosophy, science, mythology, etc.)...especially on their theme albums like 2112 and Hemispheres.

The Scorpions are still a guilty pleasure of mine. They too are better than they get credit for, but are of course the polar opposite of Rush. Their subject matter is good times, rock & roll, girls, love, sex, etc. Best ballads in the business though.
