Root, I am sure you know this already but those that say that 'speed doesn't matter are either already throwing in the 60s or will never get there and need an excuse. My dds excuse - she has to be mad to throw in the 60s. Her average speed seems to be 58-59 (as checked by one of those Collegiate Recruiters guys with a stalker gun this weekend), until pissed.

Well that statement isn't true because I watched about 4 college games this weekend in Palm Springs, Ca and there were several pitchers pitchers pitching right around 60 mph and they were starters?????

I would just be guessing, but a Div. I college pitcher "pitching right around 60 mph" in a game likely can easily hit 63 mph on radar gun if they wanted to. . . again, they might not "work" at 63-plus (ie., Cat Osterman), but they dang sure can throw that hard if they choose too. I've had one top-tier Div. I coach tell me that they won't look at kid who can't at least touch 65 mph on their gun.
