The Shawshank Redemption is probably the movie that I most often see listed as a favorite. I wonder how many people have actually read the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," which, amazingly enough, blows the movie away.

It's from the book "Different Seasons," which contains four novellas. Also made into a movie from the book: Stand By Me (from "The Body"), and Apt Pupil ("Apt Pupil"). Mr. King made a little bit o' cash from that particular effort.

Speaking of which, I almost listed The Shining among my honorable mentions, but I already had two Kubrick films in there.

If you read the Shining it blows away Kubricks movie version.

The Shining is my all time favorite book but that is another category.

Opps forgot to add _ I read Different Seasons. ( a very long time ago) Apt Pupil was my favorite short story in that.

Outlaw Josey Wales has the greatest movie line ever:

"Buzzards gota eat, same as the worms." Followed by Clint spitting on some dead guy's face.
