The Shawshank Redemption is probably the movie that I most often see listed as a favorite. I wonder how many people have actually read the Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption," which, amazingly enough, blows the movie away.

It's from the book "Different Seasons," which contains four novellas. Also made into a movie from the book: Stand By Me (from "The Body"), and Apt Pupil ("Apt Pupil"). Mr. King made a little bit o' cash from that particular effort.

Speaking of which, I almost listed The Shining among my honorable mentions, but I already had two Kubrick films in there.

The King (Bachman) short story I'd like to see as a movie is "The Long Walk".. Great story .... and most King movies stay pretty true to the book. (IMO)

Yeah...Caddyshack definitely. Possibly in my top 5. And Office Space and Alien/Aliens deserve honorable mention for sure.

Actually Stephen King hated Kubricks version of the Shining which is why he did a remake of it. He felt that Kubricks version was not true to the book at all. King remade the Shining as a TV mini series. It followed the book almost to a T.

But King loved Frank Darabont's version of Shawshank which is why they teamed up again to make The Green Mile.
