Teams not supporting Friendly Snack Bar

I know this topic has been covered before, but we were at a friendly this weekend where a team attending set up a big picnic/bbq at the field to feed their team and families. Everyone knows friendlies are fundraisers to help support the host team and teams attending should imo support the snack bar as much as possible. I can see bringing sandwiches and healthy snacks for the kids, but setting up a bbq at the field to me is just a bit too much, like a slap in the face to the hosting team..

You are so right. Every time we go to a friendly, I go to the snack bar and buy something. Even if it is a rip off. I went to a friendly a few weeks back where the host team was selling tacos for $2 each. The tacos were very small (never seen a corn tortilla so small), they were very thin and only used one tortilla (most use two). They put about 4 small pieces of meat in the tortilla and you got to add some hot sauce. I ended up buying 4 of them. LOL.

Come on teams, use some common sense when going to friendlies. Remember it is a fundraiser for the host teams girls. You would want the same courtesy when you host one. Teams that set up their own BBQ and bring large ice chests should be blackballed and not allowed to come any more.

At the same time, selling a bottle of water at a friendly for $2 is overkill.

As the coordinator for my team and the person in charge of all the fundraising for the team it really concerns me when we set up a friendly and really take the time to plan for good food and we see teams that do not even come up and buy a candy bar. My snack bar czar really takes note of who buys and who doesn't. We had a KICK A** snack bar this weekend with the BOMB carne asada tacos... will made good money but we took notes of who supported and who didn't ...

Said it before and I'll say it again: nobody is EVER obligated to give their money to anybody else. If you want people to spend money at your snack bar, it's on you to entice them into doing so. Or, if you believe that you are owed a certain level of profit for hosting a friendly, simply charge more for participation.

That said, having a team bbq at a friendly is way out of line. That is in effect no different than organizing a team boycott of the snack bar. Each family should make its own decision regarding whether to bring food, buy food, or both.

We host a few times a year and pretty much beg teams to eat at our snack bar because we are competing against a Taco Bell that is 100 yards away and 2 more burger places across the streets. My parents pride themselves on their food and how the friendly is ran down to cleaning the restrooms and making sure the fields look good! We have never had a problem with teams not spending something, well 1 team took the whole tribe to Taco Bell, why?

With that said though I must admit a few years back we where at a 2 day friendly and it was one of my players B-day and the parents wanted to do something so they BBQ'd but we hid in a corner and still bought from the snack bar during the other break.
