College Coaching Salaries

Does anyone have data on college softball coaching salaries for the various levels: NCAA Div. I, II, or III; NAIA, JUCO, etc.?

No data and my memory is a little fuzzy on this. Here is what I do remember from previous discussions on D1:

The total incomes for head coaches are all over the place. Head coaches from 30k per year to the low/mid 100's for the Candrea's of softball. The higher the number, the more factors involved (winning over X amount of games, X amount of conference games, making regionals, super regionals, CWS).

Asst coaches were from 10k on up, some had performance factors too.

I also want to say that the information is made public at state universities.

How's that for a maybe, if, kinda, sorta, I think answer?

It's only "work", when you are doing something you don't love to do.

The discussion I remember (vaguely) was a debate on the different sport coaches that had won national championships and how much they varied between high revenue sports vs softball. I think they said his total compensation was @ $148k. That was not including a national championship, but was including certain amount of conference wins and making it through to super regionals.

Of course this is Candrea, not many can touch a resume like his. I would expect the Hutchins, Girouard's, Weekly's, and maybe even Inouye-Perez's to be trailing close to Candrea. If they stay put and continue on the same path, Murphy, Walton, Gasso, Myers, etc., shouldn't be far behind.

How can a JUCO or NAIA coach justify coaching at that level if they are not earning more than a local high school teacher? Are these coaches at this level making up the difference by hosting camps and giving private lessons? Too many coaches in the Div. II, NAIA, and JUCO level with long tenures to not be earning more than $30,000 annually total.

I didn't mean to imply that DII-juco was at the lowest level of DI. I'm guessing that the top performers in those divisions make significantly more than even low level DI.

I know 1 NAIA coach that does give hitting lessons, her asst does catching lessons, and both run a travel team together. Another asst coach for a local DI here gives hitting lessons.

You must really love this game though....

In my personal situation, I wasn't the bread winner for the family. It takes a 2 income family - or you are sharing a home with someone else.

Keep in mind that various "contracts" such as speaking engagements, clothing endorsements, etc. account for much much more! I was at a camp recently of an old friend and he threw me a hoodie. I told him I didn't have the money on me for it. He laughed!
