walking taco ,simple version:99 cent frito bag split open on the side smothered with meaty chili dice tomatoes, onions, a dollop of sour cream and covered in with shredded cheddar cheese.

Really good tasing and sometimes pretty filling but you'll burn up some carbon footprints..after effects ..better get some tums buddy...

Well, I can't order in "border spanish", so I will stick to Taco Bell. We play in South Tucson, which is pretty much Hispanic.

OT, but our university students are being warned away from traveling to Mexico for spring break. Law enforcement and other officials are saying it is too dangerous.

I live in the heart of Hispanic food and hadn't heard of a walking taco, either. It must just be a name that some one made up. Like the horseshoes in Springfield IL.

That said, my slow pitch coach sold Navajo tacos and beer at her husband's slow pitch games and made enough money to sponsor us for the last 18 months. (And yes, there was a concession stand - but they can't serve beer. I asked how she did that and she said "donation.")

Commonly refered to as a "Frito Chilli pie" around here (without the tomatoes, onions, sour cream and sometimes cheese).

Where is the "heart of Hispanic food"? I work in West Dallas so I would challenge you on that.......... of course we have Mexican, not "Hispanic", food there, if you can't order in border spanish you may not get what you asked for.......

You get real mexican food here in SoCal...around Dallas....you get Tex-Mex.

You order something here in Texas and then go into mexico a hundred miles, you can order and eat the same thing.

Ok, being a Texan, I'll step into this argument. Texas DOES have "real" mexican food BUT you have to know what places to go to. ALOT of the bigger restaraunts are actually Tex-Mex but there are plenty of places to get authentic mexican food all over the state. Myself, I prefer Tex-Mex, to me it has more flavor than the authentic stuff.

Lefty, I agree with that about tex-mex, and also the food out in the peoples republic of california is also very tasty, I like it, but it aint mexican food. The usual way to find good mexican places in texas towns, towns like Alice, Falfurrias, Kingsville, Realitos, Cuero, etc. is to go into the neighborhoods, look for a house turned into a cafe. Go in and there will be the proprietor of the place, she will be wearing a long very colorful dress, she will have this stare, not friendly, but not unfriendly , she will look at you like 'i dont have time for you, but we are cooking anyway, so going ahead and sit '. She will carry herself like royalty, and she is in that building. The glasses will be the those red plastic almost see through, glasses, everything in there will be spotless, and the food will come and will not stop. Then its siesta time.

Donnie you are closer to the border....as am I....than the poster I was replying to...who was from Dallas. The mexicans that make the authentic mexican food here are fresh out of a delivery truck wheel well. Wait till the Stimulus package hits out here in SoCal...all the illegal construction workers will be back to work while the union guys draw unemployment.
