PLAYING FOR THE TOP GOLD PROGRAMS

The best advice given to me by two different Div 1 coaches when I started to realize that my DD's might have the athletic ability and drive to play Div 1 softball.
It was not to make sure and sent out all your letters to the schools you are interested in and they will come and watch you play.What they said is when they girls are young that the high profile team was not as important as the amount of playing time they got when they are 10,12 and 14.
But,when it came time to play gold that they got on the Best most recognizable Gold program they possible could get on even if playing time was sparse.They went on to say they get hundreds of letters ,emails ect. a week and they don't look at alot of them.But they will be sure to look at the ones that say "Suzie Smith from a Top Gold Program"
This proved to be true in our case my youngest DD played for an average Gold team at 15 and had about 3 colleges looking at her.When she changed teams in the fall and got on one of the top Gold Programs in So Cal she had about 15 or more Div 1 schools coming after her after just 3 showcases and she was playing at about the same level as the year before.
So just telling kids to write letters to 100's of schools and they will come out and watch you is disingenous it is just part of the process.

The premise is ridiculous on its face and doesn't deserve a response. The poster was dying to tell us that his DD is with a top Gold program....mission accomplished. Nobody tells a recruit to contact 100's of colleges....its stupid.

I agree with you here and let the haters keep on hating the "Top programs" bottom line this is true. My DD was on a pretty good team before and when we attended showcases maybe we got (1) scout if we were lucky. Now that we are part of a "Top program" we get the scouts at the games without sending letters.
Sam, The previous poster said colleges receive 100's of letters he didn't say to send out 100's of letters. You act like some of the parents on our HS team that hate the fact that we belong to a good org. and make a big deal when my DD went 3 for 5 instead of 5 for 5. They say wow you would think being on such a top program she would be getting on base all of the time.

The flame bait would be for Norcalgold to tell who his "top Gold" program would be. I was unaware that any Northern California teams fell into that category . . . Seriously, what constitutes a "top" program Norcal?

I don't know anything about flamebait, showing off or whatever. But if the OP's intent was to say get your daughter as much playing time in younger years, get on the best most recognizable Gold team you can to get the most looks, and letters are not as effective as getting on the best team you can. I heard that message and I don't think it is bad advice.
