What's on your mind?

Or you can do what I did.

Let them make their own choice after a sweltering game at 3pm, puke in the bathroom for 20 minutes, and swear they will never drink one again. :D

I will never let any of my kids drink them.

Nothing documented, but I don't think it is a coincidence that HS athletes have died by unknown causes and they started after these drinks came out. Know of a friends son passing out and got in a car accident - he had to have a heart monitor for a year. Dr. told him all the energy drinks he was talking (4 a day) over worked his heart, body just shut down.

I took them once when they first came out in college to help me stay up and study, I was ready to ram my head through the wall. My heart was racing so fast and my head couldn't keep a straight thought that I couldn't focus on anything, wasted night of studying and the crash was worse yet.

I was 22, so I can't see it being that helpful for pre-teens or teenagers.

JMO - I know plenty of people love these drinks, just think too many negative side effects for young kids to take. As for the adults to each their own.

Absotively not ... that was a recommendation for a protein drink, not an energy type drink ... a protein drink like I see guys doing at the gym 'after' a workout ... I usually opt for a different drink after a workout to replenish the carbs ...

Recently, blogs across the world wide web reported that Vitaminwater was banned by the NCAA because of its use of impermissible ingredients. Various sources stated that the NCAA banned six flavors of Vitamin Water, including "Rescue," "Energy," "Revive," "Balance" and "Power-C." Among the laundry list of impermissible ingredients in these beverages are guarana-seed extract, caffeine, glucoasamine and taurine.

By looking at the names of these flavors, it does look like it is just the plainer version that are "VitaminWater", not VitaminEnergy. Is that true? I am not too familiar with the flavors of both of these, but do know there is a difference. DD looked like she had the jitters after drinking less than a full bottle of VitaminEnergy so that was out right away.

I have recently taken the "Go Girl" option away from DD, but did cave in this weekend in HB as we were out a little late and up early. I am more concerned about consuming these types of drinks during the hotter weather, but did not want to make it conditional, so out they go (for the most part). If the VitaminWater is registering on the bad list, I can imagine the Go Girl isn't going to register any better.

Any thoughts? And, is Go Girl also on the "do not use" list?

No matter how much you condition after 3 or 4 games in a day kids get metally and physicly tired. Should they drink monsters or rock stars to fire them up during games? What are the pros and cons?

Fired up?From all I've been reading, the "rebel" chant should do the trick.

I'm pretty sure most should follow their parent's example. Let's see...Coke, Dr. Pepper, a couple of Krispy Kremes, nachos (don't forget your veggies, er a jalapenos), cheese (calcuim), jumbo dog (protein) w/ veggies - relish, onions. About the 3rd or 4th game, sneak in a little Bud Lite - only for 23 & under though.

Need a little pick me up? Skittles...the green ones.
