Man, i am a big time follower of the Angels...this kid's story is sooooo impressive. What a worker, the drive, you cant teach athletes to be driven like that...he is a great example of what hard work will get you...and i agree, that POS that decided to drive around drunk deserves the harshest of punishment.

Prayers to Nick's parents and let's not forget the other innocent victims of this losers actions.

The driver... as noted by Skarp, a bullet is probably too good for him.

Having noted that, and risking the wrath across the planet... there are others to blame as well:

- local governments who refuse to enforce traffic laws, including speeding, running lights, running stop signs and aggressive DUI enforcement. It's not limited to LA, rather, all across the country. Actually stopping for a stop sign is viewed as "optional". 40MPH through a 25MPH residential.... "oh, I am so busy... I didn't see the kid and, geez, I'm sorry about him/her being in a body bag". Bullshi*

- CalTrans, the group that promotes the use of the 85th percentile that allows speeding drivers to determine speed limits instead of traffic engineers.

- US court system that doesn't put these people away. I have no issue with an equivalent to Devils Island. Put these people on it, let them fend for the rest of their lives. The killer of this fine young man will be convicted and back on the street in 4 years. Anyone wanna bet?

I agree, but then you have Dallas PD Barney Fife clones who arrest people for illegal U turns and point guns at people running stop lights to see their dying Mother/Inlaw. Unfortunately it's incompetence all the way around.

I watched the game last night (A's Fan) and then read the story online, what a shock. Then an hour later I get an email from my wife telling me her coworker, who just had a baby last Friday had a tragedy. The baby stopped breathing last night and just died.

Hug your little ones tonight, things can change so quickly.


After a big loss I often remind my girls that we are only dealing with a game. Troops are dying in Iraq as we play softball. Kind of puts the game back in perspective.

What a tragedy! We live in Orange and I can see the lights of the stadium from our driveway. Our whole family are huge Angel fans. We watched the game and although they lost, We were stoked for Nick. My DD attends Cal State University San Marcos but drives home for a large number of games. I told her yesterday morning about the Angel player being killed and she asked who. When I told her she said she had to call me right back. My DD called me back crying and told me her friend Courtney was driving the car. Wow what a small world. My DD was supposed to be at "In Cahoots" with them but stayed back at school to study. What a crazy world. We all work hard, live right, and to have a P.O.S. like this guy who hit them is just wrong.
