The response should have been to isolate anyone in a high risk group. Not try and destroy the whole country’s economy and ruin the lives of millions.
The problem is that anyone who attends a high density event then by extension endangers everyone else they come in contact with. I agree we need to reopen, but having a gathering of a few hundred people at this time is not worth it, If you were just endangering yourself, no problem. Reopening needs to happen in a sensible matter. Agreed that high risk people should stay home, but there are estimates that over 50% of the population are high risk. Many people, including kids, don't even realize they are at high risk. There are a lot people that are successfully working from home, no need to bring them back in. Businesses that do open will probably be in staggered shifts. Places will need to be cleaned more often. People will need to keep their distances. Having big youth sports tourneys may not be able to happen, but single games I would think would be fine. I hope they figure out something about the schools, France reopened theirs and the got a new spike in cases.
I am not some hysterical fear monger, I simply look at the facts and risks. As I have said, we need to reopen, but to just fling the doors open and have things go back to "normal" make no sense.
