Practice in Los Angeles county this weekend?

What's on your mind?

I think your statistics are exactly why people have such strong feelings about this. You are asking for an entire city of Anaheim to be cautious even though only one fifth of a percent of their population has been infected by the virus. The mortality rate is misleading as a percentage. What should be being reported is number of people who have unfortunately died because of the virus compared to the population. And in Anaheim that number based on your numbers is .0000255. And yet you are asking for caution and that is the frustration. Shutting down our sport and the economy because 9 people out of 352,111 in Anaheim died because of any cause is just ludacris.

What would those numbers look like if Disney had not closed? Look at areas that did not close early enough. (Italy, NYC). You can be cautious and still reopen. To ignore a real threat because it has not occurred yet does not seem prudent. There is no bubble around Anaheim and these infections travel via people.

Anti body testing has proved those bogus scare numbers way off. Read a little.

Alternatively, these results may indicate the deadly COVID-19 pandemic – with mortality rates generally under 1% – is no more deadly than the seasonal influenza. If that is true, the near-global stay-at-home mandates could have been an overreaction.

If you believe it is safe to go to home depot or stater bros. but not a softball field to practice you are not thinking rationally.

CDC just announce yesterday (a little late, ya think) that contacting the virus from a surface is very rare.

Also 75% of the deaths were people over 70 years old.

OC has 3.3 million people and 82 deaths. Do the math. Also 55 of those 82 deaths were people over 70 years old. Only 2 deaths for people between 25 and 34.

The math says that the odds of a 10 to 18 year old contracting and dying of covid is......wait for it ...ZERO!

But please, let’s lock everybody in their homes and kill the economy instead of isolating those at risk

Where are you at on this? You first said "find a new team".

I say find a new team if your coach isn't trying to figure out how to practice. Teams/coaches should have been in contact with their players via ZOOM encouraging them to exercise, hit and throw. If your team has not done anything during this pandemic you should be looking for a new team.

Another question I have for those that are in the state of fear. WHEN will it be ok to practice? What is the magic number? Or is it one of our fearless leaders words you need to hear? Waiting for the vaccine?

For Los Angeles County, as of today May 21, 2020, we are still in Stage 1, while most of California is in 1st phase of Stage 2, and 18 counties in 2nd phase of stage 2. Teams can practice in modified settings during 2nd phase of Stage 2, and modified games in stage 3, w/ full blown Tournaments & everything close to "2019 normal" in stage 4.
In the meantime here in sunny LA, the batting cages aren't open, and I can't get permits from the parks to use the fields for practice. If you run practice & disregard the order, you can be fined. But you can practice w/ people from same residence.

BTW, I don't consider myself living in fear, rather living informed & being cautious. I'm 37 w/ Diabetes & history of blood clots, and a teenage son w/ Asthma. Also, I've been working during the order & being very cautious since I'm the sole breadwinner for my family, and have a silent generation mom w/ diabetes that I like to visit once a week. I would not like to put financial stress on my family if I were to catch it & have a tough time fighting the infection, and also would not like to bury dear mom sometime this summer because I chose to hang out w people who don't give a shit about other people & pass it down to mom unbeknownst to me because I might be presymptomatic or asymptomatic.

Preach on Brotha, i agree with you 100 percent. my daughter has Asthma and my wife has rheumatoid arthritis both underlying health conditions. This is probably why we think differently than most that dont give a crap about anyone but themselves and the softball life. Unfortunately this is what the country is turning into, egotistical i dont give a shit about u attitudes!!!

Quick answer-yes

California was not seeing the surge NY was- probably a week or 2 behind. Frick and Frack probably should have closed 1-2 weeks earlier. Frack wanted people to go to Broadway shows and parades a week before the shutdown. Would have prevented 80% of the deaths and would have needed a shorter lock-down. I agree with you on the nursing homes. California also benefited from the China travel ban- here in the Northeast we got backdoored by people coming from trips to Italy. Spaz, all I am saying I would not be in a rush to have hordes of infected people show up in your relatively unaffected OC.....

Totally disagree about what you said that the country is turning into. Almost all (not 100%) of the people that want to get things moving forward have stated they want to protect people with underlying conditions (even if that means wearing masks). It is a small few that want to buck the system, but we have that in all walks of life. In the end, the US has always made an effort to do what is right. Be careful of the hype of the media on both sides.

I believe we should move forward with phases as laid out by CA, but with each county moving at the pace they see fit. Right now is the time to get more businesses and activities going.

Please note my mom has underlying conditions and chooses to stay isolated. We have also stayed away and used technology to communicate with her.

Oh and BTW, don't give me this crap about not caring or the "greater good" stuff. The World Health Org. has already estimated that 300,000 or more people will die of starvation due to the economic impact of covid. What about their greater good. Suicide , domestic abuse and many other social problems are on the rise due to being locked up. Cancer screening and preventive health care which have been put on hold during the pandemic because our hospitals were going to be overrun (FEAR-never even came close to happening) we know will cause the premature death of millions of Americans. Nurses and hospital staff being laid off all across the country. Don't we need to care about them, too?
