Stacie Chambers (Arizona) – Junior – Catcher – Glendale, Az.
Kaitlin Cochran (Arizona State) - Senior- Outfield - Yorba Linda, Calif.
Amber Flores (Oklahoma) – Junior – Infield – Calexico, Calif.
Alisa Goler (Georgia) – Sophomore – Infield – Frankfort, Ill.
Danielle Lawrie (Washington) – Junior - Pitcher – Langley, British Columbia
Charlotte Morgan (Alabama) – Junior– Pitcher/Utility – Moreno Valley, Calif.
Stacey Nelson (Florida) – Senior – Pitcher – Los Alamitos, Calif.
Amber Patton (DePaul) – Senior – Third Base - Forsyth, Ill.
Missy Penna (Stanford) – Senior – Pitcher/Infield – Miami, Fla.
Tammy Williams (Northwestern) – Senior – Infield - Roscoe, Mo.

Watching the last few weeks, I think it comes down to Cochran, Nelson, and Penna with the award going to Nelson.

No way they should give the award to Nelson or Lawrie...they are pitchers only...not players....its the National Player of the Year Award. You can at least make an argument for Morgan because she plays when she doesn't pitch. You can't give an award to a player who doesn't play in 30-40% of their teams' games.

It's Cochran's award...nobody else can hold a candle to her. She produced, in historical proportions, every year despite having nobody to protect her in the lineup. She has been the player of the year each and every year she has played. Not likely to see anyone with her talent for a while.

A pitcher is not a player? When did softball start playing with only eight?

How about we agree to call the pitcher a Part Time Player.....Again...how can a part time player ever be considered for Player of the Year?

I think that is most peoples argument wondering why there isn't a seperate Player & Pitcher of the Year Award especially during the Cat O days.

Although the nay-sayers have a point too. What do you do with a player that has great stats in both categories, but not enough to win one outright? How do you decide who is more important. Case in point, Charlotte Morgan.
Morgan- plays every inning, great ERA along with great BA/OBP, but not as dominate as others
Nelson- best ERA in the nation, led her team to #1 status through most of the year, fewest losses
Cochran- crazy hitting numbers

Morgan doesn't stand a chance with these other two, but is a darn good all-around player. Maybe they have 3 categories- hitter, pitcher, and all-around?

I agree with Sam except Danielle Spaulding should have been top ten, she plays when she does not pitch. A girl that pitches only should get pitcher of the year award not player of the year
Danielle is a great pitcher and a great player/hitter

NU,

Not to take anything away from Ms Spaulding, but she is not in a conference that will aid in that award.

I have kept up with her some. Very impressive and would love to see her live.

I don't always agree with Sam, but he is 100% right on..here..To watch Kaitlin play..is a true treat..she is pitched around every at bat..and when they choose to pitch to her or have too..the ball usually leaves the yard..she comes to the plate..excitement fills the air and the only sound you hear is the pitchers knees knocking...
