Dan Adkins was asked by several parents to come back and get involved in the organization again because several senior girls on the Gold team did not have scholarship offers. He came back and helped get these girls recruited. Obviously (and arguably!), the best talent stayed with Shelton and the Adkins side had to try to start building his side of the organization.

While this past year the Shelton side did perform better and did have more talent, the Adkins side is slowly obtaining more and more players with lots of talent. Don't count them out! There were a couple of awesome players on the 14U, several on the 16U (who were actually classified as 14U) and I've heard they're getting a couple of other highly talented players from other organizations.

Pros about Shelton - lots of talent! Bright future! Cons...too many 16U teams of which only 2 are successful. Not sure what they're planning to do with all the players from Naudin, Foutch, Drummond and Houston - will they have enough spots at the Gold level for all these girls or will some of them be left behind?

Pros for Adkins - gaining talent, only one team per age group. Cons - taking a while to be successful.

That being said, both men are great guys and a lot of girls would love to play for Glory. Find the right fit -either side is excellent. They will BOTH be competitive the next couple of years.

Also how can a organization that claims to be one of if not the best in N Texas be holding tryouts on the same weekend Gold Nationals will be decided. I thought that was something that all these so called Gold teams that know they will never qualify for a National tournament did. Maybe that is what Adkins has become.

I don't understand your point. There was one team in Nationals on the weekend from Texas. There were only 3 or 4 from North Texas at Nationals period correct? So why would it matter when a team holds Gold tryouts? It's not like all of the good talent is up there watching.

If a girl at Nationals wants to be on another team, I'm sure missing a tryout wouldn't matter.

Let me add to my own post. The Shamrocks who reached Gold nationals 21 consecutive years, didn't qualify this year. They are also holding tryouts this weekend. Those awful people are also breaking this unwritten softball rule.

Cons - Both have sullied the reputation of the Glory organization with their childish behavior over who 'owns' Glory. It's supposed to be about softball....and not who's got the biggest pecker.

WOW Thanks to everybody that has responded. My dd is 16u for those that have asked & wants to play 18 gold this next season.
It seems this Adkins fellow is really drawing some major heat??
It also appears Shelton is making it happen for his girls, but I noticed his dd wil be moving on to BAYLOR. It will be interesting to see how much effort will be put into the Gold team now.

Either side will give you college exposure. They know many coaches. Check on how each team handles the recruiting process. Is there a recruiter helping as well?

Neither side will win a National Championship, but will be competitive.

My daughter played on 14u Glory Adkins this past season and is now on 16u. I can honestly say I have no complaints. The team has been great to my daughter. The 16u team has increadible tallent. If you want your DD to get a scholarship this is where you want your DD to be!

How can anyone choose just one? I say start playing for Shelton Gold at 15 or 16 and play 16U Adkins at the same time. You people really need to learn how to maximize your resources.
